Hello all,

First, I should let you know that I am not an experienced ASP coder and, honestly, don't have lots of experience with Microsoft products.  I've been using Unix for more than 20 years and Linux for about 10 years.  Most of my programming experience is with Perl and Python.

I just landed a new client that needs some code work on their current online training that they offer.  It's written in ASP Classic and running on a Postgresql back-end.  I don't have experience with ASP Classic but can pick-up on the language relatively quickly (I think).  I will do the work on a Windows XP box if I have to but would prefer to do the coding one of my Linux boxes, if possible.  Does anyone know if this is even possible?

Thanks for your help.

This post also made me curious about what you are asking...

From the searches I performed the most relevant item was a Apache mod_perl module called Apache::ASP (http://www.apache-asp.org/).

Is there a particular reason why you don't want to do the coding on the XP machine?

In any case, if you do try this (or another method) please let us know how easy or difficult your solution was to implement...

Sorry for the confusion...

Yes, ASP coding can be done in a simple text editor.  The only IDE's I have used to code it (Visual Studio, Dreamweaver) simply provide some intellisense, but that's about it.  I'm not aware of an ASP Unix/Linux editor.

Adam,

Thanks for the reply.

Personally, I have no issues with using XP to do the coding.  I'm just more familiar with Linux and Unix than with Windows.  Plus, both of my laptops are running Linux.  I do have an extra hard drive that I can install Windows XP, if needed.

To clear up the confusion, I need to code in ASP Classic and was wondering if anyone knows of any open source software for Linux that will let me accomplish this or can this be done from a simple text editor?  I would like to be able to run a personal web server on my Linux laptop, if possible, but it's not a requirement.  The company that I am doing the work for has a development server running Postgresql if I need to use it.  I would just like to be able to do the work on my laptop so I can work on it from home and not have to go to the office every day.

Thanks, again, for the help.

No apologies for the confusion.  Actually, I didn't do a very good job of explaining myself.  The link that you gave looks very promising.  Thanks!
