my problem of being unable to open tables because the file name is too long for a version 5 table - I've read in one of my texts that the later versions support long file names.  All I want to do is open the tables.  Since I've had no reply to a way to change the cumulative pathways, could there be another option?  Is there a way to change the tables from the earlier version that doesn't support long file names to my later version 11 Paradox.  Lacking a way to do this the  easy way (I couldn't find anything in the literature to do this, i.e. changing the table version), would it be possible to find out exactly the original paradox version of the table, copy the table to that version so it would open.  Then would there be a way to import the table data to a table constructed under the new version (the design duplicated from the table opened in the earlier non-long file name version).

The tool to use is the TableRepair utility.  This is available on the tools menu.  You will need to copy the tables into a directory where the directory path will meet the short file name and then use the table repair utilty to set the Table version to Paradox 7.  You should then be able to open the tables using longer names.

Using Paradox 11, I have kind of same problem. When setting the table lookup, Paradox sais "Filename is too long for a Paradox version 5.0 table". What could it be?

Btw: I tried the restore option mentioned above, but that did't work.

level 4 and 5 tables must have "conventional" 8-character file names, in 8-character folders.. there are workarounds for the folder names, but it gets VERY complicated

after making a backup, use the repair tool to change to level 7 tables.. or, make clean empty level 7 tables and add the data to the new tables

Thanks. I understand what you mean. But the thing is, I installed Corel WP11 office incl. Paradox. As far as I understand, Paradox11 uses level 7 tables.

I am building a new database. So there is no data yet. And besides, I already tried the restore tool.

(Btw, for I am Dutch, I hope you don't mind some incorrect spelling.)

p11 will use level 4, 5, and 7 tables.. you set the default in the BDE.. all new tables use that default, the pre existing ones stay as they are..

Sorry, it took me a while to get back to you. In the mean time, I bought a new W10 computer and re-installed P11. The problem with the tablenames has been fixed now. Unfortunately, an other problem occured. But I will look for the right thread to see if I can find an answer. Thank you for your help!
