Unknown internal operating system error
I cut and paste images into an image field on a Paradox form and I've been doing this with no problems for years; yesterday I got a message saying 'Unknown internal operating system error' with a reference to the .MB file, when I tried to paste an image in. Paradox hung. After restarting, I verified and rebuilt the table and it imported the image ok but when I tried to do it with a new record the same thing happened. I'm using Paradox 10.0.0.663 running on a Lenovo laptop with Vista Home Premium and Service Pack 2. The database has 121,900 records in it but not all of them have images. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.,

Thanks!  I've used ChimneySweep before (probably have a license for it!), but I'd forgotten about it.  Thanks for the heads-up/reminder!  I'll check it out.  (As I recall, it was very useful in fixing things that the built-in "fixer" couldn't fix.  I'll try to dig it up & see what it can do with these memo fields!) Thanks again! Aloha, -pt

Forms - Cursor Position Changed
Currently using Paradox 11.0.0.663 - Have an existing input form and have experienced a change this week for one user in the way the cursor is positioned when pressing F2 edit.  For all other users when F2 is pressed the cursor positions itself at the beginning of the field.  For this user upon pressing F2 the cursor is positioned at the end of the field.  I have been unable to find a solution to return the cursor to it's normal position (at beginning of field) upon edit.  I am sure it was a sequence of key strokes hit.  Closing out Paradox does not return cursor to correct position.

Mouse WHEEL Movement
In PDOX 8,  the mouse wheel had no impact on the paradox environment,  It just didn't work. Now in PDOX 11,  the mouse wheel is allowing users to scroll off of the record they should be Adding/Editing.  The user is then focused on a blank screen. Is there a way to trap that event?  I dont see any clues in the help doicument when it comes to scrolling mouse wheels. Currently I use the KeyPhysical event to prevent users from using the arrow keys to move from record to record,  but does not prevent the MOUSE action

in many situations, an empty table can cause an error when you try to address it's field values, especially if you're in View mode and there isn't actually a record there.. it's more obvious when you scan an empty or filtered table

Splash screen shows then Pdox dies
We've got an intermittent problem when launching Paradox9. The splash screen will show briefly and then go away completely. Any clue? We haven't installed any of the service packs but are pursuing that angle. We're on a WAN & this has 'infected' some but not all sites & is obviously growing concern. Thanks for any hints., , Solberg.Marvin@pbgc.gov

Corrupt Form... Now what?
Hello, I run Paradox 9 SP4 with Win 10. After some diagnostic errors that had me deeply concerned, I just discovered that problems I am having occur only when I try to modify a particular form. (Whew...) That form has nothing on it other than about a dozen buttons, and I have to occasionally tweak some of the button code. Starting earlier today, I found that whenever I clicked to save, or check syntax, for code on any of the buttons, Paradox would crash. Saving code on objects on other forms works just fine. So, that would seem to indicate that the form in question is somehow corrupted. I guess that I could create a new form, draw in those buttons, and cut & paste in their code. But is there a better approach to correcting the problem I am describing? Sincere thanks, Lothar

Hi Steve, I had thought that the error might be spurious, but just discovered that it was not... In one of the Var-EndVar blocks, I had selectPrinter as a string. Removing that eliminated the error. As always, many thanks, Lothar

Application Control bar
Does anyone know which event(s) I would use to trap or capture a users mousclick on the applicaion menu. Specifically,  I want to know when the user clicks the X on the application window(not the open form).  I need to run some shutdown code before the active form starts the CLOSE event. Thanks Rum

add stuff to the CLOSE event on the form.. or, disable it completely with this on the MenuAction event on the form if eventinfo.id() = MenuControlClose then disabledefault return endif if you disable it completely, then they have to push your button, or select from your menu, etc

Editing on a form without keying F9
Is it possible not to have to press F9 to start editing fields on a form? The form I am working on ties the fields to a Paradox db table.

Form opening a form and changing working directory
Is this tough to do? Presently we are launching forms from one form but then the orginal form closes. Also we are manually having to set the working directory for each form. Obviously we would like control to return to the menu after the launched form closes and the working directory set back to what it was before. I'm using Paradox 8.00.174.

Possible to bind a blank form to a table?
I'm pretty new to Paradox, using Paradox 10., , I'm curious whether you have to use an expert to bind a form to table, or whether you can create a blank form and then modify the table property. , , The table property of a blank form has a little lock graphic by it, which I assume means it's locked or readonly. So is there any way to modify it? Or must I create a form with an expert?, , Oh, I also realize I can create the form using a Data Model and get a blank form bound to a table., , But what I'm curious about is whether I can change the data source in the properties menus directly. Seems like I should be able to. But I can't figure out how., , Thanks,, , Herb Sitz

CheckBox - How to suppress Return key
When using a CheckBox; Is there a way to suppress the Enter Key so it does not change the value? I tried using disabledefault in an IF checking for the FieldEnter action in the action method of the field but that stopped the cursor from moving to the next field but the Checkbox field value still changed.

Hi John, i downloaded the zip, extracted the file, and opened the form in design mode using Paradox 9. Worked just fine. Are you opening in design mode? Or, a later version of Paradox?

Form not saving
First time post here.  I have a form with a main table "contact", it works fine.  Has run fine for years. I recently added in another linked table "school", one to one.  I can make changes and edit, but none of the edits to any "school" fields will be saved.  Edits to the "contact" table are saved.  I have the same "contact" and "school" tables working on other forms just fine.  I have verified the tables as well. What do ya'll suggest I look at?

Customer-retail display screen communication

Bar code readers are usually just keyboard wedges. Meaning, they emulate keyboard presses so no extra coding is needed. Let me know if you're doing something special; otherwise, no special coding needed.

Convert a V11 form back to 7.5????
Has anybody found a way to save a V11 form back to a version 7.5 form? I work in both platforms and inadvertantly saved something important as 11 that I need as 7.5. If anyone has an idea, I am all ears. Thanks

I didn't have any luck converting back To 7.5 I ended up cutting and pasting from the v11 to an old copy of the v7.5, which worked ok. But, I had to copy each object separately. If I tried multiples, they would loose all the text labels.

Paradox 8 Form file corrupted?
I use Paradox 8.00.302 I have a form that has been working fine for almost a year.  I periodically update the code, verify it's working, and then deliver it.  Last time I did this was on 1/10/2014.  This morning, I go to open the FSL version to look at the code, and I get the Error message, "Cannot interpret file. It could be corrupt."  The delivered form opens without a problem. I CANNOT lose this code.  Any help would be appreciated. Gary

Try making a copy of the file and give it a totally different name and see if that copy opens up properly. (Another) Dan --- Dan Ellingson

Hello Dan, So sorry I did not explain the table naming convention.  The equipment inventory table is simply called equipment.db.  Then we have rentals.db and the customer is customer.db. Thank you once again and ever indebted to you for your help!  A true blessing thankyou! William
