ObjectPAL version incompatable...?
Howdy, I run Paradox 9, under Win 10. I made a minor edit to a particular report. Let's call it Report1. Typically, I print that report using code that is on the doubleclick of a field on an MRO on a form called Form1. Now, when I launch Form1, and doubleclick on the appropriate field in the MRO, I get the error: "The objectPAL version used in this form is incompatible with this version of Paradox. You must recompile from source." So, I opened the form in Edit mode, viewed the code on the field's doubleclick, saved it, and delivered it. Next, I did just that for Report1. I relaunched Paradox, and also rebooted the system, but still get the error. In addition, I can launch the report, and can print it manually, with no problem. How can I correct this error when trying to use the code to do the printing from Form1? Sincere thanks, Lothar

Hi Steven, I thank you for your suggestion and did try it. While experimenting, I stepped through the code, and found something odd, that allowed me to tweak it. With that, all worked well. So though I had success, I confounded the experiment, and I don't know which of the tweaks corrected things. In any case, as before, sincere thanks, Lothar

Debugger NOT Debuggin' (It's Blank...)

Hello,

I just entered a breakpoint in some code I have, but then, when I ran the code, the Debugger dialog launched, but it did not populate. It is completely blank.

I have no idea how to proceed (but I do have a large mallet at the ready.)

Thanks for any suggestions,

Lothar

Closing TCursor variables declared within a method
If a variable that is declared within a method goes out of scope at the end of that method, is it really necessary to close a TCursor variable that is declared within a method?

Getting a buttons labeltext
I'd like to use a button's label in the code in the pushbutton event. Prerably I'd like not to name the button because I have a lot of these buttons that need the same treatment. I tried msgInfo("", this.labeltext) to try to get the right syntax to obtain that info but I didn't get anywhere. Tis is possible, right?

My boss dug this up: method GetLabel(slf uiobject) string var,    a1 string,    ui uiobject , endvar a1 = slf.first, ui.attach(a1), a1 = ui.value return a1 endMethod and call it on the pushbutton with "GetLabel( self)"

Export table to spreadsheet
exportSpreadsheet Does anyone know of an alternative method to export data from a table to a spreadsheet? I am currently using this,   exportSpreadsheet ( const tableName String, const fileName String [ , const makeRowHeaders Logical ] ) Logical but it has some extreme limitations,  such as FONT control and the number of lines you can export.

I do understand and that's why I'm installing a Filemaker system but it's taking time to replicate the versatility that we have with Paradox. Such a shame!

How to evaluate/construct variables?
I need to be able to loop through a set of variables, say F1 through F3 using a for loop. To be able to do this I need something like this: f1 = "hello" f2 = "hi" f3 = "Goodbye!" for i from 1 to 3     msgInfo( "",  m.( "f" + string(i) ) ) endFor Where the variable name is constructed from its parts. The syntax for the evaluation here is wrong. What's the correct way? Pete

Search multiple Scripts
Howdy, Is there a way to search for something (a variable name, for example) across multiple scripts (and each section of those scripts, like run, var, proc, etc.)? In the ideal world, I'd like the output to be something like:    script1.ssl   proc   1732   the line of code with the search phrase I suppose I might have to write my own script to do it - but was hoping for something easier. (My big project has code split across several scripts because of the size limitations built-in to Paradox.) Thanks, David

Code to delete record's last character
Hello, This would seem pretty simple, but... I have some code that generates a CSV file that I then export to my phone. I need to tweak the code so that it looks at the last character of each record, and then deletes that character if it is a comma. Might you point me in the right direction to do that? I'm stumped. Sincere thanks, Lothar

Field text displays in REVERSE?
Howdy, I have a multipage form that has a significant amount of code on it. One of its fields has started to display its newly entered text in reverse order of the keystrokes. So if I type KEYSTROKES immediately after entering Edit mode what appears in the field is SEKORTSYEK. If I enter Edit mode, and pause for a few seconds before typing, all is well. I have no understanding about how to diagnose and correct this problem, so would welcome any help. All the best, Lothar

No printers installed on the system?
Hello, I run PSP4 under Win 10. When I now try to print (with code, or manually), I get the error "No printers installed on the system." In fact, several printers are installed, and work properly from software other than Paradox. How can I get Paradox to see those printers again? Many thanks, Lothar

Problems with printerSetCurrent
I am having problems using the printerSetCurrent() command, it works OK on a machine that I have admin rights on but it will not work on machines were the user does not admin rights, the program locks up when it executes the command. Can anyone confirm that the lack of admin rights is causing the problem and is there a work around? Thanks Bill

I have the code, but where best to put it?
Hello, I have a few lines of code, but am confused about where to put it: I have a two fields on a form. One of these holds an email address, and the other a unique number identifying that email address. The process of getting and incrementing the unique number is handled with a tCursor that opens on a table that holds only that single number. The coding is simple, and works, but I have managed to get myself confused about where best to put it. Would it be best to create a "New Address" button to do the deed? Or would another location make more sense? Thanks for any assistance, Lothar

first.. you're making a "next number" table.. YES !!!! you have two choices.. trap for the INS key, or deny the INS key and use a button.. personally, I prefer the latter.. I always try to limit all the keypress stuff, and use buttons, for many reasons
