Lock on Paradox Link to Spreadsheet
I have Paradox 11 and Corel X6 with Quattro Pro. Within the spreadsheet I have several links to Paradox tables. Something got corrupted and the system crashed, leaving me unable to open the spreadsheet, From another work station I was able to open the spreadsheet files and disable the links, which now allows me to open the spreadsheet. But whenever I try to re-establish the links the spreadsheet locks up. Otherwise, everything works fine. I have reinstalled Quattro Pro, Paradox and BDE but that didn't help. The work station has Win 7/64 and have tried to restore the OS to an earlier point but the restore utility fails. I'm guessing that I will need to get the HD reformatted and reinstall the OS. Before I make that leap, has anyone seen anything similar or have any thoughts on how to make the DB-spreadsheet links work again.

Paradox on Windows Server 2012
We migrated from using a run of the mill Windows XP box as a server to Windows Server 2012; one of the applications we use is a simple 3 table database which stopped working the moment the files were being accessed from the new server. We could see data but trying to add anything would result in a Lock Time Out error. I discovered that if I remove Referential Integrity from the detail table structure, and just assign it through the data model on the form, everything works. Would it be OK to leave it like that? or would it be somehow dangerous for the integrity of the data? Could the problem have come from some setting on the server? The person who installed the server for us doesn't think so but I'm not sure he is as familiar with Windows 2012 Server as I thought. For the time being I will be monitoring the data and checking that nothing is lost. Any suggestions? Thanks

PARADOX 4.5 for DOS on WIN2K
Sadily we are still running a legacy application that requires PDOX45. Honestly I don't mind since I really love this version. Here is the hitch: I upgraded a workstation to WIN 2000 and now I can't get pdox to run. My command line is f:\pdox45\paradox.exe -extk 16000 -net f:\system\pdox45\ Which has worked just fine for all other W95, W98 and WMe machines but under W2K I get the following error message: Can't Start PARADOX: no directory specified for PDOXUSRS.NET, , Any ideas?

access violation error
Any ideas on how to resolve this error when clicking on the table lookup tab in the table info dialogue?  Running Win XP Service Pak 2, and Paradox 11.0.0.411. Access violation at address 00A7F6AC in module 'PXDCRT32.dll'. Read of address 00000000.

Hello, This has mostly to do with fact that Paradox is not completely compatible with Windows 7, and above. When do you run this problem having table on a machine with older version, it will work 99%. Suc6 Adam

Blob Binary Large Object Error
I have been having a tough time with BLOB (Binary Large Object) errors in memo fields of some large tables running on a Win2008 R2 Terminal server with just 3 users.  Any one else have experience with this? This is an app that has been running with support and modification for 25 years. It has been running on this server for close to 8 years. It is only accessed via a terminal server session, all activity in paradox is native to the server. I have had the tables get corrupted 7 or 8 times in the last three weeks.  I have seen this probably 3 or four times before in the last 8 years, but a rebuild of the tables has resolved it.  In the last three weeks, I have not been able to go more than a couple of days without corruption. I'll post more detail later, I wanted to get this up to see if others have experience with blob errors and figure out if this is the right Prestwood board to post it on as opposed to something specific to coding or tables. Thanks

Unable to connect to Paradox table using ODBC
Hi there, I am trying to connect to a Paradox table in PHP using the INTERSOLV ODBC driver provided with Paradox. I am able to connect to the DSN fine but when I try to run a query, I get this error: , Warning: odbc_[e_xec(]) [function.odbc-exec]: SQL error: [INTERSOLV][ODBC Paradox driver][Paradox]Network initialization failed., SQL state S1000 in SQLExecDirect I have checked my lock files and that my BDE has the correct NET DIR location, which is on our server that houses all of our Paradox tables. I have also tried re-installing Paradox several times. I am able to open the tables from this machine using Paradox with no error so I'm confused as to why this could be happening. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Steven, Thanks for the answer. I ended up solving the problem. The issue was that I was using Anonymous Authentication for the site on IIS and the user that was being used was a user that did not have appropriate permissions to access the lock file over the network. Hopefully this can help others who might run into this problem. Thanks!

Windows 10
Hi there For those of you still running Paradox I can tell you, that it runs very well on Windows 10. No errors and very fast and stable. No problems with BDE either. Only problem we have is using PDFCreator printing PDF directly in the code. But only in some cases. Need to check my code for this. No need to change for anything else due to new Windows version. Atleast we will stick to our Paradox solution as long as we can. Peter

thanks.. it's stupid, I agree.. maybe you should make a batch file to fire off Paradox, to keep replacing the file.. there will be windows updates constantly, and you never know how many of them will attack your file

Gen Protection fault starting Paradox in W10 64bit
I have been a Paradox user since the mid 90's and have developed a personal project management tool that I use to execute projects. My company is upgrading my current Win 7 Enterprise edition laptop to a Win 10 64bit Enterprise edition laptop. I tried installing Paradox from Office X7 and it seemed to install normally.  In fact the first time I tried opening it it opened up normally.  I then set the alias paths.  However I then rebooted and attempted to start Paradox I got an Unexpected General Protection Violation error. In fact Paradox has never opened again.  I tried de-installing / re-installing but no change. I tried all of the compatibility modes W7, XP-SP3 but it never makes a difference. I do see that Paradox creates the PDOXUSRS.NET file so it is attempting to start up before erring.  I am seeking help on what I can do to fix the problem.

How do I patch Paradox 11 for Vista?
Howdy y'all, I was using Pdox 11.0.0.410 on an XP Pro laptop to support infrequent maintenance of a Pdox/DOS app. The disk failed with no image backup. Now using this Toshiba laptop running Vista Ultimate SP2 x86 with all patches. This copy of Pdox 11 came from the WP Office 11 CD. I have the product key. I had downloaded and installed SP2 and SP3 patches for Pdox 11 and now have 11.0.0.410 on this machine. I read in Mr. Prestwood's article about Vista that Corel had released an Installer patch that results in an 11.0.0.411 instance. This instance is working correctly except for the APPCRASH event that occurs in pdxwin32.exe when I exit the program. Does the 411 point release fix the APPCRASH bug? So what's the path to an 11.0.0.411 instance from my WPO 11 Pro CD? Thanks kindly. P.S. Don't really wanna consider upgrading to Win 7 x86 unless absolutely necessary.

Out of Index
I have gotten a few "out-of-index" errors since upgrading to Win 7 on one of the clients. I run PDOX 9 with one box acting as a server (only) and 4 clients. I know how to fix the problem with the table repair utility but I was perplexed on what was causing it. After a little reseearch I found the error is prob caused when I tried to access the table from two different places on the local computer. I haven't received the error since then so there is a good chance that is the cause of the problem. The error didn't occur when I was doing the same thing with XP, only with Win 7. I'm not sure why Win 7 would be more senstive than XP but not being able to access tables from mutiple locations on a local computer is not a big deal...so I don't do it anymore. JB

How uninstall Pdox 10 from Windows 8.1
Hi.  I have Pdox 10 installed on Windows 8.1 (64 bit but Pdox running under Win's 32 bit capability). I have been having some glitches which make me want to uninstall and reinstall Word Perfect Office 2002, or at least Pdox 10, to see if that fixes things. When I do "Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a Program", Paradox and/or Word Perfect Office 2002 do not appear in the list of programs to potentially uninstall.  I am reluctant to just reinstall for fear I could screw up what I have. , In the olden days (possibly thru Windows 7), you could uninstall the Word Perfect 2002 programs via Start | Programs | Word Perfect | Uninstall;  but with Win 8.1, that option is no longer available. Any idea of (1) Do I first need to uninstall Word Perfect Office 2002 / Paradox 10 in order to reinstall the same?; and 2) If so, how? Thanks,,  Fred

I had a real good experience with the Prestwood IT team when I converted my workstations from XP to Win7. I was getting .net directory errors. Their pricing was very fair and, in my case, I had no problem paying to get the problem resolved because I was wasting way too much time trying to fix it on my own. Good luck with whichever route take on this! JB

Initialization Errors - Pdx & BDE
Running Pdx9 on Win7 laptop, standalone basis - no changes since since fresh installs on new hard drive 1 year ago with OS & programs on C:, data/work files on D: drive. Now get message: Network initialization failed  -  File C:\PDOXUSRS.NET  - Cannot access network lock file - Continue with network disabled The actual path for PDOXUSRS.NET is C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Local\VirtualStore. When all else fails, re-instal, first Pdx9. Then used uninstall command from WPO12 disk, followed by install of Pdx 11.0.0.302. Now BDE also fails - Frror $210C - bdeadmin.exe (v.5.0.1.22) at 00054F92.

Frequent waiting
Hi, I am running Pdx10 on newish Win7 machines which are networked via our hospital server... The application is quite old and has been running well until recently when I and other users have noticed frequent periods of "hanging" or "waiting" while the "hourglass" rotates... Typically there will be about 6 users logged in but not necessarily active at the times. This can occur when one is simply moving between records in a form and does not need to be during an intensive calculation for example....  Our network managers say there is no problem with the server, so I am looking for advice on what to look out for as a possible culprit. I am not aware of any big changes in code but.... Thanks for your help.

Running Paradox over an IPSec VPN Connection
We recently upgraded to Windows 7 and I purchased Paradox 11.  Paradox 11 runs perfectly fine when I am working in the office.  But when I try to run Paradox over an IPsec VPN connection, performance degrades substantially (a simple query which takes 3 seconds to run takes over a minute).  The issue is not related to internet speed or connectivity as Microsoft products such as Access and SQL Server Management Studio run perfectly fine without any performance degradation.  Does anyone know of a solution which would improve Paradox performance?

Paradox 7 upgrade
Hi   I'm trying to build a case for our company to upgrade from paradox 7 win with BDE 3.0 to at least 9.0, although by the look of it we would have to get wordperfect X7 pro which would include 11.0.   i can't find much information on the benefits or changes we would get from such a jump.   Should we upgrade to BDE 5.2.2 already ? and what benefits (i'm sure i used to have a website that gave me bde 5.0.2 with changelogs but cannot find it anymore)  Is it worth installing paradox runtime on all clients ? I tested on my home pc with runtime 10 and our application seems to work fine but with "no" benefits ? If we get runtime 10 or 11, can i continue devlopping/fixing with paradox 7 dev on my computer without breaking everything ? Many thanks Jerome
