Rose Vs. OTW Vs. ??
My team is considering starting to officially use a development tool, and we know of Rational, (obviously). I have heard of OTW Software's product, and started playing with it. It looks great, but I was wondering if anyone has any comments about it? anyone using it on a long term basis?

Sample Gantt Charts Please
I have been over the PSDP many times now and have adopted it as my standard. In section 4 of the Project management PDF it states that there are 3 sample MPP's supplied with the templates. Is this true. I was hoping not to have to type them out so if there are samples available it would be appreciated... , , Cheers, , Martin Down Under

I know this is an old post but I wanted to add something to it in case someone searches here. Yes, we do have sample Gantt charts available in the PSDP private area. They were added sometime after this post so I guess it's good that I waited till now to answer. Banging Head On Wall

MSF vs. PSDP
What about Microsoft Solutions Framework? How does PSDP compare to that?

Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF) is general in nature (a framework). PSDP is a specific process pattern.

Change Control?
I just purchased the process templates and I see nothing in the template set for change control. Any thoughts?

There are the various release notes and the change order template. Is there something beyond that you would want to see in the templates?

Scott Wehrley & feasibility
I am a little unclear on some of the points made in Scott's Feasibility Revisitted in the newsletter, the first being where he talks about paths & checkpoints. He says that an informal feasibility can be delivered verbally or via e-mail. Prior to that Scott said that when a feasibility study is delivered to a customer, it serves as a documented understanding of the project scope and needs. Yet, an informal feasibility study can be delivered verbally. , , Elsewhere, Scott says that after the customer has had a chance to review the feasibility study, he has an opportunity to say No to the project, reduce functionality, scope, etc. Does this infer that cost of project can be determined at this juncture well enough to give a customer a quote so he can make decisions?, , Finally, in robust, is the requirments phase already accomplished when the feasibility is delivered?, , thanks

thanks scott - , , Even with small projects, it's amazing how things can be misinterpreted and create far more trouble than the project is literally worth. I assume that you have the customer sign an agreement and in the agreement it is stated what specific work will be performed. This would then be your documentation., , By the way, I truly appreciated your article. It actually was a good interface to what I've read so far of PSDP.

iteration size - software size
New to the site and have been reading with interest the PSDP document. There's a chart (3.6.4 fixed bid types)that outlines recommended fixed-bid types for each iteration size and desired quality. Is software size a factor in producing a fixed bid. If so, how? , , Anyone on this board reading PSDP or considering using it? Why?

>>...Fixed Bid Recommendations...software size..., , Software size does play a part in fixed bids, but not directly. Software size helps determine the target iteration size. Target iteration size is what's used with the recommended fixed bid type.

Getting Started with the Unified Modeling Language
To get started with UML, you might want to download and read the official UML standard. http://www.omg.org/technology/documents/recent/omg_modeling.htm for a listing of recent documents including the current release of the UML (as of this date the OMG has adopted UML 1.4)., , Although Rational developed the initial UML, they turned it over to the Object Modeling Group. You can find out more about the Object Modeling Group at http://www.omg.org.

PCC: WebMaster Standards
Page Content Suggestion, Know your audience. , , 1. If your audience is professionals and your content is serious, stay with a nearly all text based content with just a few added graphics., , 2. If your audience is ALL web browsers (for example with a store), then go ahead and use graphics but stay away from leading edge technology (as of January 2001 that would include DHTML)., , 3. If your intention is to dazzle your audience or you're fairly certain nearly all visitors will have a "modern" browser, then you can use leading edge technology as part of your content.
