Take Away: When users press CTRl-SPACEBAR to display a lookup table, remember to let them know that they can use CTRL-Q to locate a value. This is an interactive feature that can greatly enhance the user's perception of your application.

Using [Control + Spacebar] is a very helpful tool, but it is also very unique to Paradox.  What I have tried to do is make the Paradox user environment more compatible with other applications.  When entering field information, I have found it useful to attach code to the field event "KeyPhysical".  By copying this snippet of code into fields that have the lookup help enabled for the table, the user is able to get a help window by using the [F1] function key.

Here is the code:

if eventinfo.VChar() = "VK_F1" then
  disabledefault
  action(DataLookup)
endif

I hope that this is useful for someone else, too.

Hi Larry,

Interesting suggestion but isn't F1 usually reserved for a help file?
