5. C# Substring

C# Substring

Above returns "abcd" on a string literal. You can, of course, use VarName.Substring(0, 4).

Hi Jon, I noticed you started subscribing to our monthly eMag but you still need to verify your email. Once you verify your email, you will receive one email per month containing Paradox and Visual Basic content (the two groups you chose). If you verify your email this month, you'll receive the Feb Issue which also contains some useful information on virtualization features Microsoft introduced with Vista.

Getting Street Name from Address field
In a table with a field "Job Address", I am trying to get just the street name over to a new empty field called "Street".  We are in a rural area, so examples of Job Address contents are: 123 Any St. N78 W31121 Myroad Ave. 992 La Chapelle Ct. N73 W26973 Kettle Cove Ln I was going to use a search to locate the spaces remove characters to the left of the 1st space, and to the right of the last space, but as you can see from the above addresses, that doesn't work for many of them.  If I did the above in a fist pass, and then in a 2nd pass maybe I could verify if there is still a space remaining, and if there is, I could remove any remaining substring that has a number in it, I think that logically works, but I can't figure how to code it.  Ideas?

Replacing quotes with VBA in Access
I am downloading data from a web survey into a txt file that I then import into Access.  Users are inserting "quotes" in their comment fields.  I am cleaning up the comments in the txt file by reading them into variables and using the REPLACE function to remove jargon (e.g. &LF; is replaced withBig Grin!. That works fine, but I have tried to REPLACE the quotes with ^ or single quote but I can't get VBA to read the quotes. I have even used Chr(34) and it is not recognized.  How do I REPLACE quotes in substrings?
