1. Revisiting the Stephen King Novel: Real Life Christines in the Computer World

This article discusses some ghastly things I have seen in the computer business that can take on a life of their own similar to the Stephen King novel, “Christine”.

2. TADOTable: When The Obvious Can Be Wrong!

With the introduction of support for ADO Database access, Borland gave us TADOTable, a quick, easy-to-use component to begin the job of outfitting an existing application with a newer database. But TADOTable is no TTable! It comes with some baggage you can do without.

4. BDE SQL Links Not Maintained

I have an application in Delphi 1-7, using BDE. Is there a way that I can upgrade the BDE so the can work with MSSQL 2005 or 2008. They work fine if MSSQL2000 is is used. Am I on a dead end or there is still hope?

Need BDE replacement
Am using CodeGear 2007 Win32 with dBase, ACE Reporter, Woll2Woll, JEDI components; therefore I have a lot of TTables and TQueries throughout my program. My applciation runs on a 2003 server with XP workstations. The response time to access data (retrieve, post, do SQLs) is horrible. The users are demanding something better. But I don't know what is better. And I don't know what the ramfications are in changing to something better. I sincerely hope that someone can give me recommendations as well as address the difficulty in changing to another database. Thank you so much, Charlie

Expand the height of the field - I'm guessing the underscore is there but 'hidden' due to the height of the input area., , How can you average age, if they won't give you the year of birth?, , I'd say use a smallint (or longint) field for each of month, day and year - for now., , You can enter them NOW, then create a date from all three later if you can get the year., , Depends on your overall goal, both now and later.

Field size help needed
I am fairly new to Paradox, I am using Version 8., My question is, how can I limit the amount of characters that a user can input on a form. I am using a DBASE IV table in Paradox. I have set the field size to 3 characters, but when I type on the form I am allowed to type up to 254 characters even though I assigned my field size to 3 characters? It gives me an error (you have exceeded the amount of characters) Is there any code that I can limit the user to only 3 characters? Can I use Picture Assistance? Please Help, , thanx
