June, an Exciting Month for Me
Posted 13 years ago on 6/16/2007
Take Away: Things at Prestwood are never boring. This month is shaping up to be one of the more interesting.
A blog topic from wes's Blog

If you've followed my blogs (and why should you?), you've probably noticed that I have a bent toward databases.  I'm particularly excited about "embedded" or small databases, and I've been tracking them practically since the day I discovered dBASE II.

Long a fan of DBISAM, I now incorparating it's successor, ElevateDB, into a couple of personal projects.  Yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment.  Most people come home from work, they do something else.  I write more code.  What can I say? Call it a character flaw.

But enough about me.  ElevateDB is looking like an incredibly worthy successor to DBISAM, and, man, does it scale! More details at this KB Post

This month, I discovered that Oracle is offering a free, open source database.  Small, embeddable, and built on a venerable platform, I think some of you could get very excited about it.  It's called Oracle Berkeley DB XML, and I gave it a little write up in this KB Post.

Being sort of a database nut, I'll take all the help I can get.  One amazingly useful helper I've discovered is the Context Database Extensions Suite.  Sheer magic.  More details at this KB Post.
