eBay Desktop App Arrives

Posted 12 years ago on 4/7/2008 and updated 4/7/2008
Summary:

Arguably the most prominent, most successful, web-hosted application, eBay is harnessing the power of the desktop as an alternative to the browser.

KB100984

Many recent and significant enhancements to the Web (ASP .NET, Ajax, Flash, Silverlight, etc.), have persuaded a great many people that web-hosted applications are the way to go. At Prestwood, we've always felt there's a place for both deployment models; web hosted, and desktop applications.

eBay's Feb. 1, 2008 release of eBay desktop is certain to cause some heads to turn, and some people to rethink their decisions and predelections. When a web deployment as successful as eBay appears in a Desktop version, you have to wonder, "Why?"

eBay Desktop, now at version 1.0.3, is a free download. Once installed, it allows you to conduct virtually all normal eBay activities from the desktop application. In addition, it's local database allows you to work off-line.

Here are some of the things eBay is saying about this new product:

"Welcome the New
Search, bidding, browsing, watching its all there, with a brand new interface

"Be a Power eBayer
Search feeds, item reminders, and persistent filters put you ahead of the game

"Go Beyond the Browser
Recent item cache, outbid alerts, and no need to refresh"
