class that should not be inherited.
How to write the class such that it should not be inherited by other class.

For C++, to prevent derivation make the constructor a private member of the class. In .Net you use the keyword sealed and in java you use a final class.

Hi Jon, I noticed you started subscribing to our monthly eMag but you still need to verify your email. Once you verify your email, you will receive one email per month containing Paradox and Visual Basic content (the two groups you chose). If you verify your email this month, you'll receive the Feb Issue which also contains some useful information on virtualization features Microsoft introduced with Vista.

I'm sure this isn't related to the P9 patches. It's most likely something with the DLLs. Did you write the 32-bit DLLs? Are you still having this problem?

Application Framework -- Modifying existing form o
Our company inherited an accounting application when we took back the servicing of one of our investment portfolios. It appears this application was built using Paradox 8's Application Framework. Unfortunately, I am unable to access the original alias so that I can launch App. Framework's utility, make a couple of modifications to one of the forms. I read the warning in your Power Programming book about making any changes to forms outside of AF. What is your best advice in approaching this assignment?

I can't quite get this bit, why can't you access it, can you elaborate?, , "Unfortunately, I am unable to access the original alias so that I can launch App. Framework's utility", , I did have quite a battle with AF v9 some time ago but in the meantime my knowledge retention may have self-deleted, however give it a try., rt

class constructors and destructors
Hi again, , Also been having wierds with class destructors (and constructors)., , When I declare a new class, I need to overwrite the 'create' and 'free' procedures don't I (if I want to alter them). But my compiler (Delphi 5 standard) doesn't like the 'override' keyword after the definition!! Is this because i am not inheriting my class from a parent class?, , As well as this, 'free' doesn't like override, but it also crashes if the implementation of 'free' has the command 'inherited free;', , , , TmyClass = class, constructor create; override; // error: 'cannot override a static method', destructor free; override; // error: 'cannot override a static method', end;, , constructor TmyClass.create;, begin, inherited create;, end;, , destructor TmyClass.free;, begin, inherited free; // causes 'external exception at address FFFFFF', end; , , , Any ideas?, , thanks in advance, Pea

Classes and Array's of classes
Hi again, , Thanks for the info on my last post (how to get the size of a 2d array). I now have another annoying bug, which compiles fine, but comes up with a EAccessViolation error! (whatever that is):, , I'v defined a couple of (simple) classes (for a generic map class). The main class is called TMap and has a 2d array of objects of type TMapTile. The problem is in the 'create' function which attempts to 'setLength' the array:, , TMap = class, tile : array or array of TMapTile;, constructor create( x,y );, end;, , constructor create( x,y );, begin, inherited create;, setLength( tile, x, y );, // do something with tile like, // loop through it and call, // create on all tiles individually, end;, , The 'setLength' causes the error. Any idea's? On the side,- how about idea's on calling 'create' on all tiles without looping through them?, , Sorry about the long post! =P, , Pea, Big Grin!

Final reply to post!!, , To all reading the above,- i hope I didn't waste your time- if i did , i apologise anyway., , The first method does work ( an array of array of TMapFile ), it was my own silly fault I couldn't get it to go.... Just calling my code from the wrong place (wrong function)., , Sorry about that, Pea

getLanguageDriver error on opening form
I am using Pdox9 on 98/NT., I have inherited a form which when run gives the error triggered in the 'getLanguageDriver' method on an object of TCursor type... and then Tcursor not opened., My question is how do I find the TCursor its referring to...? The form has at least 40 objects on it (its a multi-paned notebook)... other than putting a breakpoint in the open method and then running F7 for ever...! ?, Any suggestions much appreciated., Thanks, Ashley

Thanks Rick:, Good idea to use the error message - I wish I wasn't lazy!., , I used the trace command to find where the opening firing sequence stopped, and investigated from there., Thanks, Owen
