 Suse 9.1 and Kylix 3

I recently installed Kylix 3 on a new Suse 9.1 machine. The install went fine, no problems or anything. When I click on the icon to start delphi, nothing happens. It looks as if it is strting, the task appears in the taskbar and the computer appears to be doing something, but then it dies. The task disappears from the task bar, and Delphi never loads. Any ideas what is causing this?

You probably need to get the "unofficial patches" from Andreas Hausladen's site. He posts regularly to the Borland Kylix forums. Rick Carter

Was that the patch from Anreas Hausladen? Sorry, I don't have Linux installed at the present time, so I can't help more. You could post to borland.public.install.kylix which is monitored by Borland employees. Rick Carter

I tried installing the Kylix 3 VisualCLX Patch and it appeared to install properly, but the problem still exists. Is that the right patch to install?

I am also having problems with Kylix 3 on Suse 9.1
As far as I can see, the problem arises from SuSE's implimentation of glibc2. When I attempt to run kylix (either startdelphi or startkylix) I get the error message eg:
/usr/local/kylix3/bin/delphi: relocation error: /usr/local/kylix3/bin/libwine.borland.so: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference
If anyone has any ideas as to how this problem can be remedied, please let us know! I am checking the suse and borland sites periodically to see if there's any updates available, but currently I have found nothing that can help me out.

Good news, everyone! But first I'll make a humble appology for my last post before checking out a few more sites. On looking at Andreas Hausladen's site I have discovered a solution (I hope). In order to start kylix successfully, I simply added the following line to the startdelphi script: export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.6.1 It seems to work quite well now; I'll bring more news if I prove myself wrong again  |
