Mouse WHEEL Movement

Mouse WHEEL Movement in Paradox Forms topic (part of our Corel Paradox / ObjectPAL Coding group).

In PDOX 8,  the mouse wheel had no impact on the paradox environment,  It just didn't work.

Now in PDOX 11,  the mouse wheel is allowing users to scroll off of the record they should be Adding/Editing.  The user is then focused on a blank screen. Is there a way to trap that event?  I dont see any clues in the help doicument when it comes to scrolling mouse wheels.

Currently I use the KeyPhysical event to prevent users from using the arrow keys to move from record to record,  but does not prevent the MOUSE action

I haven't seen that particular problem.. the available "mouse" events would probably kill ALL mouse activity.. maybe somebody else has a suggestion

I wanted to follow up and let you know how I solved this problem.

first FYI, My form design has the the property AUTOAPPEND = FALSE

Traditionally, When adding a new record via the form,  I open the form via code,  enable data edits, populate a few fields, then turn it over to the user to finish the data entry.

What I didn't realize was this process sets AUTOAPPEND = TRUE.  Since you are in fact EDITING A NEW RECORD,  Even if you programmatically set it to FALSE, it behaves as if it were TRUE.  Allowing the mouse wheel to scroll to the next NEW record

My fix was to add the record to the table first, then open the form to the record just added.  In this scenario I can enable data edits and set AUTOAPPEND = FALSE.  The mouse wheel, while not disabled,  does obey the autoappend setting.  Then I simply move my focus to the field where the user should start thier data entry.

hey, Jeff.. just saw that with my own eyes, on one of my forms, today

I add a record to an empty table with a tcursor, post the record, close the tcursor, and open the form.. based on what you described, I should not see the "scroll" problem, but I do

what am I missing?

When you open the form and put it in edit mode,  you also have to set autoappend = False

so.. going into edit mode sets it to true, even if it was false when it opened

ok, I can deal with that.. I didn't realize that, either.. down key doesn't do that, I don't use the mouse scroll, so I never would have known :-)

the primary form that I wanted to test.. click on a field.. define field / define table.. click into the data model screen.. right-click on the table.. uncheck autoappend.. seems to kill the mouse scroll

so generically.. do it for each individual table, leave no stone unturned ? :-)

Thats correct.  In my app I already had a library function that I use to open my forms (whichever is needed) and then focus on the correct  record.  So for me,  it was pretty simple to implement the change in the library (once  i figured out what was happening).

Also,   on each of my forms, in the #Form.KeyPhysical event I have code that traps certain key presses that would allow the same thing(Page Down, Pageuo, etc)

yeah, I'm trapping everything, too. or so I thought.. if it hadn't been for this thread, I'd have been in total shock yesterday when Sherri showed me that

I just wanted to confirm that we need to kill autoappend for every "live" table on the form.. from my brief testing this morning, that's the only way it works.. it's not my library and my forms I'm concerned with, it's all the stuff that others have written, that I'm supporting, that I need to look at

Your situation will be different than mine,  On my form,  I have a parent child situation,  and it is the PARENT i am concerned with.   So  I haven't gone any deeper.
