Creat a new file, table with fields ?? in Delphi Single User Apps topic (part of our Pascal and Delphi Coding group).

Hi all,

How can I creat a new database file sure MDB file table, fields then save it ... I think I can do it by SQL .... I searched the NET but I didn't found anything Big Grin!

It sounds like you want to create a new Access database on the fly in Delphi.


Yes, you could do that in SQL with a "CREATE DATABASE" command and a bunch of "CREATE TABLE" commands.

But "CREATE DATABASE" commands are often platform specific (Oracle's and InterBase's are not compatible with each other!).

If you really need to create a new Access database on the fly, you will probably need to use the Jet function calls to do it from Delphi. The standard TDatabase component doesn't have a facility for creating a new database through SQL because you have to have a connection to the SQL database to issue SQL queries and commands.

The Jet function calls are probably documented in Visual Basic references, manuals, or books. I don't seem to be able to find any Delphi references on Jet Engine function calls. If you find a reference on the Jet CREATE DATABASE calls written in C++ or VB, I'm sure we could translate the call to Object Pascal so that you could call the DLL from Delphi. :)
