EVENT: Delphi SIG DATE: Monday, December 11, 2000 TIME: 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM TOPIC: Extending TDataSet .........................................................
The Delphi SIG will meet in the training room at Prestwood Software & Consulting, located at 7525 Auburn Boulevard, Suite 9, Citrus Heights, CA 95610. If you have any questions, feel free to call (916) 726 - 5675 and speak to either Mike Prestwood or myself (Larry Rutledge).
Last months presentation by Dan Ervin was very informative, he showed how to use events in COM Objects to notify the server when something happens on the client and vice-versa. He is working out a few issues in the sample code and then we will make the notes and code available to the group.
This month I will show how to extend the TDataSet component. In Delphi 1 and 2 all the database-related components were designed around and strongly tied to the BDE. Since the release of Delphi 3 the situation has changed. Instead of defining a single TDataSet class that wraps the BDE connection, Delphi now offers an abstract TDataSet class; there is also a new TBDEDataSet class, which derives from TDataSet and is the base class for TdbDataSet, which is the base class for TTable and TQuery.
As usual, if you have questions or would like us to look at and work with a project you are stuck on, feel free to bring it in for some team development and troubleshooting.
Finally, we now have a forum for Delphi discussion at the Prestwood Forums. This includes a nice bulletin board which you can access with the following URL: Old UBB Archived Link: http://www.prestwood.com/ubb
Please login, register, and start posting your questions and tips to the boards. We will be using the questions posted to the board to foster conversation at future SIG meetings.
There will also be free pizza provided by Prestwood Software & Consulting. So come out and enjoy a night of free food and free knowledge.
