i recently partitioned and formatted my hard drive on my pentium-S at 90MHz (whatever that means).
i reinstalled DOS 6.22 and then Windows 3.1 and i'm now trying to reinstall my CD-ROM drive.
Before i partitioned and formatted my hard drive, the CD-ROM was working fine (though a bit slow x4)
i tried to get it to work by reinstalling the manufacturer's disks.
So far this is what i know:

Model No C645
FCC ID JUP645A
When i took off the computer cover, the wires from the CD-ROM drive to the MagicS30 Sound Card were labelled IDE CD-ROM, which was connected to a wire labelled PANASONIC CD-ROM, then MITSUMI CD-ROM, then SONY CD-ROM. It looks like a single wire with white plastic bits joining them.
So I'm not quite sure what make and model my CD-ROM drive is. I looked on the actual drive and it said ACER but when i installed the ACER drivers, the CDROM didn't work.

The only result i got with the CDROM was with the MITSUMI driver. After i installed it and rebooted the computer:

Starting MS-DOS...
HIMEM is testing extended memory...done.
CD-ROM Device Driver version 5.07 for ATAPU

Device Name=ACERCD01
Supporting the following units:

Then it just freezes and absolutely nothing happens when i press anything or press nothing.

How do i fix this?

Windows 95 came with some CD-ROM drivers although it was still difficult to get some CD-ROMs to work. Starting with NT 4 and Windows 98, Windows comes with all the CD-ROM drivers available. Therefore my first suggestion is to upgrade to at least Windows 98 or ME (Windows ME is the new version of Windows 98).

Now, if that isn't a possibility, then your stuck with debugging your current setup. I recommend that you verify the CD is working. To do this, you MUST find a bootable CD-ROM disk. That is a disk that boots up and already has the correct CD drivers in it's autoexec.bat and config.sys. If you don't have a working boot disk for the CD-ROM, then contact the manufacturer to get one.

Once you accomplish this, then you know you're on your way to getting it to work with Windows 3.1. The next step is to compare your autoexec.bat on your hard drive (drive C) with the one on the working boot up floppy. Add the appropriate lines (probably replace since your CD-ROM is partially working). Do the same for your config.sys.

Good luck,
