Aloha you all,

I'm redoing a spreadsheet export ... and stumbling.

Question 1 (PCC and aliases) -
PCC recommends a folder for data tables just beneath the alias. Do I need to alias the folder containing the data tables?

Question 2 (aliases and data models) -
In a form I have a button which initiates the export. There is no user input. All the necessary information is stored in String constants.

After exportSpreadsheet, I have a non-keyed table. Later I need a foreign key. So what I used to be able to do, was copy a table with the structure, then add the records from the non-keyed table.

I had different folders for my data and the table I copied, and each folder was aliased. The data model only contained table I copied.

I am failing to copy the structured table. Is this due to my aliases, or my data model where I used a table alias for the structured table?

When I define the constant String for my structured table, one level down from my Working directory, is there a trick?

Can I find information on relative directory addressing in the PDW 9 Online Help? Or, old articles from the Paradox Informant ....

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I'll try it.

With respect to aliases and data models - I have found the data model is tied to the table by more than the table name. In the course of my "experimentation", I had to reselect a table after I had changed it's name (using Paradox), then renamed it. When I opened my form in Design mode, I was asked if I wanted to select another table ... since it couldn't find it. I selected the table (of the same name), and continued.

Don't know.

Thanks again. I'll be back.

Hello,

(To the moderators - Redoing this message. If the first appears, please delete. Thanks.)

My import now works, but with a twist.

I have my forms, reports and data models in one folder. In a second folder, I have my data, including a QPW 9 *.wb3 spreadsheet.

I want my first form to import from the spreadsheet, and query the result. I want my second form to display the imported data in groups.

To make it run, I set my Working Directory to the folder containing the data. Then, in the Project Viewer, I change directory to the folder where my forms are.

Is there a better way?

-o-

If I set my Working Directory to the folder containing the forms, and used an alias to access the data folder, I have failed when I tried to do a table copy. Eg.
t.attach(sEmptyStructure)
t.copy(sImported).
where sEmptyStructure is a string constant, like ":app:\struc.db" or ":data:struc.db", of the table name defined at the Page level.

Using setDir in form:Big Grin! pen hasn't always worked either.

Maybe it's me .... Any more suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Hello,

I've emailed the form. Probably more there than you want to bother with ... but what the heck.

I agree with you. I feel this should be simpler.

On the other hand, this is also the case where I took something that was already workng, and now I'm trying to make it conform to a program style and convention, plus make it "easy to use."

And this is a guy who can't read his own handwriting.

I'm open to both suggestion and criticism. Meanwhile I'll continue with my play project. Think I'll change tact for a bit and work on creating input screens for the spreadsheet import parameters.

Thanks,
Brian
