I just got back from camping in South Lake Tahoe and found the message boards have been slooowwww for days. I rebooted the server and it seems to be working fine now...hmmm...not sure why. I don't know if it was resources, a virus, or a hacker. Oh well.

Tomorrow morning I'm heading back to South Lake Tahoe for camping (my family is there now). I came back to meet with a client for Delphi training for the day). I'll be back Monday. Until then I'll have someone here check the boards daily.

It turns out the slow down was caused by hackers. I've tightened up security so it's taken care of until they hack again (it's a never ending battle). I sure wish these hackers would find something better to do.

Geez...I wouldn't go anymore if that happened to me too. We go at 2 and sometimes 3 times each summer. This last trip was with a popup tent. Very nice.

Camping, that remind me...

Once upon a time and many, many moons ago pre-kids, my wife persuaded me to go camping in Cornwall. Now, some people are into S&M, but at the time I was into early LandRovers, which is rather like S&M (apparently) but on wheels, so it's portable. Well, we borrowed this 'ere tent thing, some "air beds" and set off in this total wreck of a 1949 Land Rover which easily consumed one gallon of oil for every two miles travelled and polluted all countryside for a minimium radius of 20 miles with thick blue smoke!

Anyway, we arrived (exhasted) at a valley campsite with a sweet little stream, took off the breathing apparatus and started to make camp. But, shock, horror there were no tentpoles so we cut some twigs.... but, oh,there were no tentpegs so we cut some smaller twigs..... but, oh, no plugs for the latent airbeds so we cut some more diddy little twigs and stuffed 'em in the diddy little holes.

And now for the best bit. After a trip in a very dimly lit LandRover to the pub we returned and went to sleep, that is untill the airbeds went flat and the very wet sound of a monsoon woke us, lucky the tent did'nt leak, good what? But, it was then that I saw this enormous great spider leaping around the twigpoles..... and in the ensuing battle to escape the horrible great thing, the twigpoles gave up the fight and the whole tent collapsed on top of us. However the best was yet to come, as you must remember where we had pitched our tent - yes, you've got it, the stream turned into a river!

To cut a wet story short, we were luckily that the LandRover had so many oil leaks that it had'nt a chance of rusting away so we made a very quick sodden escape to higher ground, only just before experiencing the imploding dynamo syndrome which neccessitated a further day in the picturesque wet scrapyards of dampest Cornwall looking for the right bit to mend the rotten thing in order to get back home to (in)sanity.

Camping, never again.

Well I have to admit that even for one who has done battle with a 703lb spider maximius in a rickety tent that your camping story sounds pretty scarey. Although I'm not sure which I would be more afraid of, the bear or Lady Atroxell mit pan lids.

By the way, what particular species is a "friggin' bear" I've heard of Teddy and Grizzly ones..

Very glad you survived the bear invasion, ATroxell!!I've camped at French Meadows a few times and, luckily, never encountered any wildlife, with the exception of birds maybe..however, it's been years since I've been there.
Bravo on the camping stories, though! Oh, and our server seems to be working fine now...
Well done,
Joy
