Jay, you should "always" use the newer version of whatever software you're using when starting a project. Go out and get Paradox 10 now! The list is too long as to why but compatibility with 32 bit windows and xp specifically come to mind. Also web features, etc. Just do it.

Actually, there isn't really a Paradox 11, Ashamed just a paradox 10. Corel did not add any version wo the Paradox that ships with suite 11. So, alas, Big Grin! Paradox 10 is our most recent version.

Now I'm confused. My contacts at Corel tell me that they "accidentally" shipped a version that was "labeled" version 11 then recalled it. So, if you buy Suite 11, which is the only way to get the latest Paradox, you get Paradox 10. Also, the version 11 that shipped changed only the version # so 10 and 11 are essentially the same. If they are shipping Paradox 11 still, then you're correct but according to their website, they're shipping Paradox 10. Here's a snippet from their website:

Geez, I'm not sure why you don't believe me Big Grin! or the Corel website Confused but being a man of science I'll be happy to test the theory. Especially since you have evidence... Now that

"EVERYONE who has the version that comes with suite 11 has checked this and stated it is Paradox 11."

Everyone is a strong word so I'll be happy to triple check. I understand there was a Paradox 11, the question is what ships now and is there any "real" difference. As a development shop, we have to have all versions but clients just need "a" version. I will get "written" confirmation from Corel and post it here. Boxed In

Hopefully he read my initial reply of go out and buy Paradox 10. Big Grin! I think that's the bottom line. No matter what, he shouldn't stick with 4.5. Paradox 10 is good if for no other reason cause you can get it much much cheaper. My Two Cents

The bottom line is the more information the better. I'd like to see a more friendly interaction here on the boards. Negativity scares visitors away. None the less, I appreciate everybody's participation in this message board.

It was pretty clear he isn't developing for clients. What he was interested in knowing was whether he should stick with Paradox 4.5. I answered that clearly. Let it die. As for 7 months old, yep it is. I think we should let this one die before we're talking about it 7 months from now! :)

To be clear, you can correct me anytime you like, but you tend to be "rough" with your communication. But, that's just your style. Perhaps too many long days studying Geek Alert! and geeking out. :)

I'm going to participate in these boards again on a daily basis. Anyone is welcome to post messages and participate, but understand that I do change and enhance these boards all the time. I move messages, I clean up messages, I delete messages, I add to messages, I remove stuff from messages. I correct miss-spellings. I remove negative comments. I block abusive posters such as those spamming us or advertising unrelated products (related products okay). My intention is to have a light, friendly, but most importantly helpfull message board.

Tony will not be posting to these boards any more. His confrontational style was deemed inappropriate by the moderators.

I personally want to thank Tony for all his good input. I reviewed his postings and many of his posts contained excellant information. Good luck Tony!

Thanks Peter and Rick. I agree that this is old news, what was new to me was that they are still selling Paradox 11! If so, I need to know cause, we have many clients using Paradox and we develop new applications in Paradox all the time. Yes, we prefer Delphi, but Paradox is a great tool.

There website clearly says Paradox 10 is shipping with the product and my old contacts at Corel told me that they pulled 11 and went back to 10 as the shipping version. They said 11 was "accidentally" shipped. Pehaps that was incorrect info, I'm just trying to follow up with Corel on the issue. I understand there is a Paradox 11 Runtime, we have it here at the shop and in our client private area. So it sure looks like there is a Paradox 11, but I just want to do my do deligence ONLY cause I was told otherwise by Corel early on. Also, I'd like to understand why they say Paradox 10 in their advertising. We'll see. :)

Hi Liz and welcome. I assume this is Liz Woodhouse and I understand you and Tony are now married. Congrats. I'm sorry for all this confussion and problems as of late. I'd like to close this chapter and move on.

As I explained to Tony in my many email exchanges in the last few days, I'll do whatever he wants. I'm not sure what difference it makes or why this is such a big issue but I will do whatever you or Tony wish. I did edit my message to reflect my understanding of the truth. I wasn't trying to "hide" the truth, I was just trying to be nice and move on. However, I don't wish to offend anyone so read my edits and if you don't like them or want them stated more postively, let me know. I've edited my post now 4 times in an effort to make it sound better. I hope this last one works. If not, let me know and I'll be happy to edit it again.

I don't believe in burning bridges and I hope to reconnect with Tony in the future. People sometimes make mistakes, that's okay. I know I've made my fair share. As for Liz, Liz hasn't participated here as far as I know, but I am famialar with her work.

You are correct that this is our forums and we can edit as we see fit. However, to be clear, in general we don't censor. We edit posts now and then, delete some, clean em up, etc. For example, if I see miss spelled words, I sometimes fix them. If I see abusive or confrontational posts, I try to edit them to make them less confrontational. If something is embarrasing, I'll also edit or delete the post. It is not my intention to upset people. I want to build a community of friends. That's all.

As for Tony's posts. I think they are great and serve as a good memmory of all his knowledge. I have deleted and edited some of the negative ones, but 99% of his posts are left as is. In fact 99% of all posts are left as is.

It's a bit of a sad and sorry saga and having been, shall I say, involved on a prior occasion I think that maybe Rick's post has summed it all up rather succinctly.

But, life does, and has to move on and during which time "time" can prove to be a great healer.

First, Mac has it - maybe Mike, you should consider a visit to see just what you are missing Roll Eyes

Now, the quid and the buck. Oh,yes Soap Box

That is a very difficult concept to get, try thinking of it in terms of the latin "quid pro quo" - consider the phrase "buck pro quo" it just does'nt have the same ring to it, does it?

Next?

Thats enough of that. Ed.

You would get better responses if you post this to
the "Paradox Interactive" forum, use an appropriate and descriptive Subject line, and tell us whether you're talking about Paradox 4.5 for DOS or Paradox 4.5 for Windows.

Anyhow I find it important to buy the newest version to show Corel that they should keep on developing on this product.

That might be an admirable attitude, if I didn't consider it futile at this point. [Sigh]

What I confirmed was what was shipping when Suite 11 first came out. If Mike says he's checked with Corel and they're now shipping Paradox 10 with Suite 11, he might know what he's talking about.

In any case, Corel administrators have confirmed that they are not devoting any personnel to further development of Paradox. Corel doesn't have a lot of resources to spread around, and apparently does not consider this a "flagship" product like Draw, Paint, Word Perfect, etc. I doubt that we can do anything to change Corel's attitude.

The one glimmer of hope might be that Borland (the original developers of Paradox for Windows) is supporting the Borland Database Engine in their newly released Delphi for .NET, and Delphi has up to now shipped with "Database Desktop," a scaled-down version of Paradox. There is an open source project on SourceForge.net to duplicate and extend the functionality of Database Desktop, though it apparently isn't that far along yet. But it is conceivable that at least all the functionality of Database Desktop, or maybe even all the functionality of Paradox, could be rebuilt in Delphi for .NET components, either as an open source or commercial project. If that were to happen, we could then do our Paradox apps in any language that supports .NET -- but that's wishful thinking, I'm sure.

Tony will not be posting to these boards any more. His confrontational style was deemed inappropriate by the moderators.

I personally want to thank Tony for all his good input. I reviewed his postings and many of his posts contained excellant information. Good luck Tony!

I can't speak for Liz or Tony, but it seems to me Mike's last revision pretty well states the unfortunate facts. I agree that Tony has made a lot of postitive contributions to this forum, and just about every forum where Paradox and the BDE is discussed. I don't know all the details of what transpired in the private emails, but I know Tony has a low tolerance for what he considers to be "censorship" or "putting words in his mouth."

OTOH, Prestwood Software and its moderators have every right to say what they'll allow to be posted in their forums. It's unfortunate nothing else could be worked out.

Was it Tony's request that all his posts be removed from the Prestwood forums? If not, is there any way the technical information he has provided to these forums can once more be restored?

In any case, I think of Tony and Liz as my friends, and hope to continue to read their posts and converse with them in other forums. I also value my friendship with the moderators here, and the contributions they have made to the Prestwood forums.

All this is old news.
At April 24. 2003 Rich Carter informed about PDX11.
At June 28. 2003 I informed where to find the PDX11Runtime. We have used it eversince and find the Runtime more stable as PDX10-runtime. Beside of that there isn't anything new. Anyhow I find it important to buy the newest version to show Corel that they should keep on developing on this product.
Peter

In a message in comp.databases.paradox, Vladimir Menkin says there is a Paradox 11, and it's different enough that delivered forms need to be re-delivered. But apparently there's really nothing new.

Mike, I recently had to look at a computer for a friend of my boss's. His version of Paradox thought it was version 11 - at least on the splash.

For what it is worth; I have Pdox 11 for development and some of my clients have Pdox10. When I try to "deliver" updates to them the delivered objects (under v11) will not run under v10 unless redelivered under v10. So there is a difference somewhere in spite of what Corel is saying.

That's not true, Mike. At least post the truth or nothing at all. Tony didn't agree to go, and didn't cancel his account or agree to having it cancelled.

Feel free to cancel my account, I just came by to set the record straight. (NOTE: If this message vanishes, it wasn't by my choice, nor did I agree to it.)
