Hi again!!

this time i have a question concerning IB and the users password.
i run into smtgh that left me thinking, i dnt know if im missing smthg concerning to DB security, but here is the situation:
i installed IB and created a db, ive populated the db to my needs, and obviously change the sysdba default password to another password, then i uninstalled IB, so i could upgrade to another version i downloaded, then when i gone to use my DB i wasnt wiht the password i left it, it was with the default masterkey password, obviously i could see all the information it was within. this left a bit apreensive, as there was no real security in this . i dnt know if im missing smtgh here, even if im missing smthg very basic, but i would like to know if there is anyway to really protect mt DB with a password and prevent some one to open my DB without the pass i have set.

TIA, bruno

What you're missing from this picture is that the passwords are not stored in each database! All user passwords are stored in the system database isc4.gdb. When you uninstalled InterBase, you uninstalled that database file as well.

Your working database was left as-is, because it isn't part of the InterBase installation.

There's no real good way to really protect your InterBase database other than changing the sysdba password from the default of masterkey. You can protect every table, view, trigger, and procedure in your database by creating separate user logins, and granting them only the access you want - leaving full access to only sysdba.

A discussion of this would fill a couple of pages on the message boards, so read up on GRANTs and ROLEs in the InterBase Security guide.
