Win 10 and Installation Issue
We need to upgrade some machines from Win 7 to Win 10, and they need to be able to run Paradox 8.
  • Will that work?
  • Is there a way to install from a CD to a machine with no CD drive?
  • Thanks. Gary

We define large databases as greater than 500,000. We have a number of our own databases with more than 10 million records. We run client databases in 600-700 thousand segments. All code runs 4-5 times slower. Regards, Rich

    Paradox & Custom ODBC Driver
Does Paradox support connecting to 3rd party or custom ODBC data sources? I have one installed, see it in the BDE Administrator, but can't find where I can connect to it from within Paradox.

I got it fixed. I am setting up a new computer and it was working on my old machine so I looked through and compared the registries and found where the ODBC listing shoud be and exported (the one I needed) from the old machine and merged into the new. Here's the location: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Borland\Database Engine\Settings\DRIVERS ... Thanks for your ideas and time fellas. Best.

Thanks so much, Rum! I took your code and refined it to my purposed.  No arrays for me, so I was able to simplify it, and in the end it wound up working better than I actually had planned!  (Was able to sort just by selecting the drop-down menu item, didn't need a separate button, like I thought I would) This worked very well, and I thank you. you can't change field type in a query.. you need to do it in a scan.. for instance tc.open("mytable") tc.edit() scan tc: tc.b3 = numval(tc.pipe) endscan tc.endedit() tc.close() needs more whistles and bells to trap for errors

Paradox 11 not printing to network printers
I have just re-installed my Paradox 11 on a Windowsx64 laptop and I cannot get it to print reports from Paradox reports themselves. However, they work perfectly if I call them up from a form in objectPAL. When I just try to print in a new Paradox sessionm I get a dialogue box that says: Printer interface setup error/ LCAppPrint Initialize failed!  Then Windows 10 just closes the program. I'm not all that good with finding out where my problem lies. Could anyone point me to some solution, please? Tony

Back after yeeaars in the wilderness. I've tried this again and get the same result. I can print a report if I do it through and objectPAL script. Load the report and print. But if I just open the report, I get the same result and Paradox closes. Also, I can't print things like info structure. Paradox just falls over.

Paradox 10 hanging since upgrade to Windows 10
Hi, Has anyone managed to get Paradox 10 working satisfactorily on Windows 10? Care to share your setup please? We upgraded to Windows 10 last week and since then Paradix hangs 4-5 times a day. We manage to get it going again by having everyone log off and deleting all the lock files but it's getting a but frustrating. We have our data in a shared folder and everyone is pointing to the same .NET file. I've tried every suggestion I've seen here and elsewhere with no luck so far. Any tips, pointers, suggestions gratefully received.  Thanks  Delordson

Paradox on Windows 10 Locking Up
I have a customer that insists on continuing to use Paradox. We have the files stored on a file server that has a share that is mapped to all users workstations as a drive. It has been working fine for years. Recently, we migrated the server to from 2008 R2 to 2016. We now have users complaining about the application locking up especially if inactive for a while. I'm wondering if anyone has an ideas to prevent this from happening? Thanks, Jeff

    Printer Driver Settings
We have  been running Paradox 11 on Windows 7 for awhile. We have bought new Windows 10 pc‘s and are going through the configuration process. We have a Konica C658 printer. We are running into an issue where Paradox will not pick up the default printer preferences. For example, in the printer driver we have set Paper size = 14.5 x 11 Orientation = Portrait Print Type = 1-Sided Staple = Left Corner But when you print from Paradox, for example instead of Print Type = 1-Sided, we are getting 2-Sided. I know I can set some of these settings via code(I don‘t believe I can set it to staple). But I‘d rather not go back and change this on every form where I print reports. Has anyone run into issues with Paradox not picking up the printer preferences that are set on the printer driver? Oall other apps, such as the Microsoft Office apps, work fine. Thanks, Gary

I have not used that funtion in many years.. my first guess is that it doesn't understand the file type.. remember, this is 25 year old technology, based on simple bmp logic

    BDE LANGDRIVER
Anyone have an idea of what the difference is between these two drivers are? 'ascii' ANSI     vs   Paradox 'ascii' The reason for the question, I have recently seen sporadic issues with the former, but have had inconsistant results when testing for the issue. For instance  SetGenFilter(Some_DYNARRAY)  might, and I emphasize might,  give errors with the former,  but does not with the later. With the latter, When exporting a table to excel, if a fiels is blank, data equal to one space is exported, with the former an empty string is exported. Just hoping to get a handle on how these are different and if possible,  how to change or check the the setting when the paradox application launches.

    Paradox on Windows Server 2012
We migrated from using a run of the mill Windows XP box as a server to Windows Server 2012; one of the applications we use is a simple 3 table database which stopped working the moment the files were being accessed from the new server. We could see data but trying to add anything would result in a Lock Time Out error. I discovered that if I remove Referential Integrity from the detail table structure, and just assign it through the data model on the form, everything works. Would it be OK to leave it like that? or would it be somehow dangerous for the integrity of the data? Could the problem have come from some setting on the server? The person who installed the server for us doesn't think so but I'm not sure he is as familiar with Windows 2012 Server as I thought. For the time being I will be monitoring the data and checking that nothing is lost. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Hiding the desktop
I read a short article that says in order to not see the desktop, and only my forms, I need to use app.hide() The problem is that when I try it, I get syntax errors.  I've searched through the boards and through the ObjectPal guide that I have, but I have not been able to find out exactly how to do this (what code and where) I also cannot seem to find where in the Object Explorer it is indicated whether a form is a child or a dialog.  I know this seems simple, but its very frustrating.  Thank you for your help.

Thank you The problem was that I had it set up as a child instead of a dialog.  Also, missed declaring the var. Once you told me where to find that and change it, it worked perfectly. Thanks again.

    "No more files" error
Upgraded a win 7 box to win 10.  Using a win 7 client.  Now recieve the error: Cannot open: :dbx:table.db No More files. Table: table.db Table: \\earth\database\xxx Happens both manually and programatically.  Can usually get it to work if I quickly try to access same table/query again.  The longer I wait before retrying the greater the chance it will error again. I see some similar issues online after Win 10 updates. Do we have a fix?

isTable and isFile force the file buffers to flush, so that makes sense.. and really can help as a warning here, if you're getting "false" returns, when you know you shouldn't be

    Paradox Locate Install Files
I can not locate my Wordperfect Suite CD that I used to install Paradox 9. It has been mentioned that maybe when it was installed the software was copied to the hard drive for future installations. In order for me to locate the install or setup what file or files and there extensions will I be looking for?

it would have been copied to the drive, only if you actually copied the CD yourself.. it does not do that automatically look for a folder with "WP Office" or "WPO" in the name.. that would be Suite 2000

trouble using SendDLG() on 2016 RDS svr W/ Outlook
I am starting up a new 2016 RDS server to replace a 2008 R2 Terminal server running a Paradox 11 App. I am having trouble using the M.SendDLG() command, which runs fine on The 2008R2 server. I get a windows error about the default email client and to open Outlook and set it as default I have opened outlook and set it as default I have also set it in control panel default programs and through settings default programs Both servers are running Outlook, the 2016 server where the problem is occuring is running Outlook 2019. There is also a Paradox errormessage that simply says "Main".  I think thats the errorShow for the M.SendDLG() Anyone else run into this?

we've already switched to an alternative like this, for one process that needs html, as an attachment, with a submit button, in a big batch to our vendors.. everything that email security hates, in one process :-) the only conceptual problem with the alternative, but it didn't matter in this particular situation, is that the alternative can't stuff the "sent" box

DLL problem Importing XLS in Paradox 11 RT
I am running into a DLL problem (I think) when trying to import an old .XLS format spread sheet The same code (importSpreadsheet()) imports the same spreadsheet in my developer pdxwin32.exe But when I go to run it in the production machine in runtime PdxRwn32.exe, I get an error At first, I got an error about a missing DLL (PFit110EN.dll)  I tracted down the DLL in the Programfiles\Paradox\Programs of my developer machine and put it into Programfiles\runtime\Programs\ of the production machine Now I am getting an error about unable to read headers when I use an importSpreadsheet()  I also tracked down a PFit110.DLL that had a newer date (3/7/2003 vs 2/25/2003) and tried that on the production machine, but it didn't help. Has anyone else run into this and found a solution?

    PdxRegCl.EXE
I have used posts to this board in the past to resolve this issue, but recently installed WPOX5 on Windows7 machine and tricks that worked in the past on Windows XP do not appear to work in Windows7. I have cleared all of the registry entries of PdxRegCl and have disabled the Registry Cleaner in the start up of msConfig, but next time I start Paradox, Windows recongifures it and all of the registry entires reappear and the RegistryCleaner is back in the startUp. I cannot retain the working directory that was set in the last session and all of the established ALIASES are lost. Any assistance would be appreciated.

We've got about 15 client machines and have to start upgrading XP to Windows 7 64 bit. I've been working on Windows 7 32 bit without trouble (except the crash whenever I try to close without saving a new script). Has anyone successfully made this work? Did it work out of the box or did you have to you have to use XP mode?

How to get all files on a drive
I am sure that at one time I had a script or form that would give me a listing of all the files in a directory, including subdirectories. (Perhaps it was just on my todo list.) It would, of course, have involved enumFileList and recursive routines. I would appreciate if anyone might point me to such a utility. I am not finding what I need otherwise out on the internet. Thanks, NK
