Using Visual Basic 6 to connect with Interbase
Delphi with Interbase I have mastered but I have been asked to write a VB6 front end to address an existing Interbase database. Bought a copy of VB6 and several books ~ spent many hours studying the limited information available ( none relating to Interbase )and trying to write a coded connection without success. I would be most grateful if someone could end my frustration by providing the solution.

Whenever the client is disconnected from the server the ADO connection object will become usable. Whenever it occurs, the application has to closed(data lost). None of the connection object's properties can be used to check the lost connection. Please help me.

Good idea., , A "disconnected recordset" is disconnected from it's connection to the database after the recordset is returned. It's very useful on high-use systems where SQL connections are a premium.

crystl32.ocx
Hi....hopefully someone has come accross these errors....I've posted this issue on a few VB sites, but haven't gotten anywhere! When I try to open up a project in VB, I get the following message...."crystl32.ocx could not be loaded--Continue Loading Project?" Additionally, when I do open the project, I can't open up one of the forms in the project.....I get the following message...."Path/File Access Error". Lastly, in a log file associated with the aforementioned form, I get the message...."Class Crystal.CrystalReport of control rptReport was not a loaded control class." , I recently downloaded 'Depends' and used it to see if I had some files missing, but when I checked for dependencies on the crystl32.ocx file, everything was fine. Also, I tried running the following commands 'regsvr32 crystl32.ocx' as well as 'regsvr32.exe crystl32.ocx' but to no avail...does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Printing in VB
Hi everyone, this is my first post. I'm a programmer but new to VB so I have what's probably an elementary question. I'm printing report lines from a recordset and I've noticed that when I write a Printer.Print statement VB does a line feed whether I want it to or not. I need to qualify a couple of the recordset fields with IF statements before I print them so I'm using several Printer.Print stmts for each report line. In my old language (Progress, if you've heard of that) you had to explicity force a line feed unless you tried to print at a position that the print head had already passed on that line. Could someone help a newbie out?

Thanks, Neil, that was what I was looking for. I knew there had to be a way, I don't know why I didn't think of that. Ah well, the trials and tribulations of teaching yourself a new language.

Selecting items from strings
I have what is probably another elementary question. What functions can I use to select items from, and generally parse a delimited list (say with commas) in a string variable? Is there a function where I can say give me item 4 in the list? And another that tells me what position "Bob Jones" is in the list?

Must Access be installed to use VB/Access program
I made a VB program that reads a small Access table using an ADO control. The program runs fine on my computer. I used the package and deploy wizard without problems to create a setup disk. But when I install the program on another computer I get Registration errors during the install and the program runs but can't read the Access table. Must Access be installed on every computer that uses my program? Big Grin!

Eureka!! I figured out my problem. Incase anyone has the same problem in the future, you need to update your registry by going into START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL/ODBC and add your Access database. You can avoid this by adding code into your program so that your program will update the registry during the install process.

Yes that is exactly how I had programmed it originally., However being from the Paradox camp I thought I would explore the Paradox "alias" scenario so that each PC could very well use a different path to the same database., It is not essential for this project but I was interested to see how VB handled a similar scenario., Thanks again for your help it all helps in the learning process.

if..then.. /else statement
I'm working on a program to display who has called when I input the telephone number. So I have gone through my address book, inputting : If lbl1.Text="telephone number" Then, lbl2.Text="mom" for example., My problem is the Else statement I want to put on the end to make any numbers that don't match the ones in my address book produce a lbl2.Text ="????" response. So I think my problem is with lbl1.Text. What should this be / what is the correct expression for "none of the numbers above?" thanks, Louisa

SSTab, TabStrip, or Multipage
I am very much a beginner. I need to use one of the above components, but none of them do what I want. I know you can change the background color behind the tabs. I know you can change the text color by changing the foreground property. Is there any way to change the color of each individual tab/page? The color is currently a drab gray. I think a different color for each tab page would help the user recognize which tab is currently active. Thanks for the help!

Relative File Reference
Hello, I have a quick Visual Basic question. What would I have to do to make a relative file reference so that I can point to a file so that it can be the source for a multimedia control. What I mean is, I have the following line of code:, , MMControl1.FileName = "C:\Games\Media\Theme.mid", , What would I have to do to make it so it would be a relative path instead of absolute like I have just displayed?
