Reading Paradox tables from Access 2007
I have an Access application that imports data from Paradox tables in an existing, external application (Timeslips by Sage). App was originally written in Access 2003 and I was able to link to several Paradox tables and read them successfully (no update is required). We upgraded to Access 2007 and the existing Paradox links work just fine but I have been unable to create new read-only links to more of the Timeslips' Paradox tables. The new Import wizard assumes a read-write link and then fails with the error:      "Unexpected error from external database driver (11010)." Development is on a Windows7 64-bit machine and deployed to a WindowsXP machine (soon to be upgraded to Windows7). I've tried linking on both machines and NoGo. I've also tried searching the web for code that could handle this but to no avail. Any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this?  Thanks very much.,

I'm working on a MAJOR project that is difficult to describe..., , basically, it will be a system that allows people to register for a "conference" (we call them festivals) and then schedules them into the festival based on certain criteria. It also allows for the administration of the festival, including hiring of judges, establishing locations, etc. We **might** be looking for someone who can complete the scheduling module of the project.

Combo Box won't update with specified value
As this is my first post to this board, I will try not to complicate this with unnecessary information. I am trying to set a combo box to a specific value (the name of a loan) using VBA for when the form opens. The combo box is populated with Loan Names from an Access table. Currently, I am using the following code to set the list index property (I have used this with excel vba before and it worked):   Combo_LoanName.ListIndex = 3  The problem is that when the form opens the combo box list is populated but no item is selected. I have tried other variations of the code above but to no avail. Can anyone spot what I may be missing?   Thanks, Craig

Corrupt mdb file
I have an mdb file that appears to have some corruption.  I have run the "compact and repair database" utility several times.  This utility runs without reporting any problems.  However, there are about 5 forms of about 60 in the mdb file that, when modified cause MSAccess to crash.  I have also tried to start with a blank mdb file and cutting and pasting every form, table, query, report, from the old file to the new file and the same problem occurrs with the same forms. I am desperately hoping for some advice from somebody to hopefully help me save all the code that I have done and not have to build it again to get rid of the problems (it would really be a pain).  Thanks in advance.

Using VB to set the form's current record
I've developed an information tracking database, which uses an a AutoNumber field as the PrimaryKey. This number is used as a reference number., , What I'm trying to do is write a subroutine that moves to a record based on the reference number entered by the user, as the regular Find dialog defaults to the field with the focus., , I've managed to write code to build the RecordSet and Seek out the record, based on the number entered, but what I'm having a problem with is setting the form's record to the one found by the Seek method., , Anybody have any suggestions? All I need is a direction, one sentence reply would be sufficient....but if you do have some sample code, that would be great., , Thanx in advance, James

Question on SubForms
I have a Subform and 5 option buttons on a main form. What I would like to do is to change the form shown on the Subform to a different one each time a different option button is clicked. (I have also created 5 forms that I would like to see appear on the Subform on my main form.) , Can someone help me? Thank you in advance for your help., Big Grin!

You can still use subforms., , I agree with the tab solution. Set the tabs to buttons., , Use a different subform for each "tab"., , This is much easier than trying to hide the subforms.

Programming with Forms-Access 97
This should be a piece of cake but it's driving me nuts - I have a form (frm_Intro) with a combo box which lists client names. After choosing a client I have an "Enter" button that is opening a new form (frm_ClientInfo) that will display the detail for the client. Also, there is a subform (sub_ClientInfo) on frm_ClientInfo pulling data from a separate table but related to the client., , I am currently using a select statement in the on-click event for the button setting the variable strOpenRecord equal to the selection. I then use that variable as the recordset for the new form but am getting a Type Mismatch error when I run the forms. Right now I'm open to any suggestions with this issue., , Thanks.

Missing Page Header in Subreports
Hey:, , I have a master report that contains independent subreports (that have no data relationship to the master report - the master report serves as a 'shell'). , , My problem is when the master report is previewed or printed, the page headers in the subreports do not appear. I'm baffled because while in design view, when I select the properties for a subreport's pageheader, the visible property is 'true', yet it does not show., , Anybody have this happen or know how to force the pageheader within a subreport to show?, , (How do I reference a subreport pageheader in using VBA from the master report code?), , Thanks!

I don't know what you mean by the subreports appearing on one page, however in the event that professional writers open up the subreports in a seperate window and go to print review, they appear fitting in agreement size and introduction as the primary report.

Adding field values in Access
I am trying to duplicate a Paradox for DOS report that tracks IRA activity by account and gives a historical recap for each account. There are fields for Orig IRA Dep, Dep #2, Dep #3, Incoming Rollover #1, #2, etc. In Paradox I simply totaled these fields, subtracted the field for Original Cost and the diff was the increase in acct value to-date. In Access I cannot add the fields together. I tried the grouping the report, which I needed to do to get one account for each group but the =sum ([field])+([field]) did not work. Can what I am trying to do be done in Access?

The sum function usually has troubles in a form unless it's in a header or a footer. Try using DSum instead:, , DSum("[Field1] + [Field2]", "table/queryName"), , Check vba help and you can add criteria to this if you need. HTH

increment month on new record
I am trying to accomplish the following with VBA:, , When the user moves to a new record the new record date should be incremented by 1 from the previous record date., , This is how far i've got:, , I have declared a global variable for the OrderDate and used the following code to take the date from the old record, put it into the variable from which the new record takes it's orderDate value:, , Private Sub Form_AfterUpdate(Cancel As Integer), ' store the existing date in a globally available variable, strOrderDate = Forms!frm_orders!OrderDate, End Sub, , Private Sub Form_AfterInsert(), ' add the date on the new record from a globally available variable and increment by a month, Forms!frm_orders!OrderDate = DateAdd("m", 1, strOrderDate), End Sub, , Now, I feel totally lost with this, it's not working for me and is probably blindingly obvious to you. Anyone got any ideas?, , Thanks a lot,, , Mark

saving a mdb file to a cd
I'am running a shipping program that is Access based. I have a huge data base that is currently 78,000KB I want to create a file with my mdb file and save this to a CD. Then I want to purge all my history files in my program. Will I be able to reinsert this CD and gain acces to old files or is there a more efficient way to rid my database of this information without loosing all of it?

Albert (i'm assuming), , Rather then doing this in vb code, construct an update query. This will use NO vba code whatsover, will out-perform it's counterpart and will be way easier to maintain., , Take a look in Access help for Update Queries, , HTH

I guess you may use the query that was shared on Prestwood forum. Somewhere about queries. Rovena Gilbert and Derreck Torr (essay writers from the stuff) commented on the process of calculating the whole amount.

i think the executable is compiled code...they cant get to the VBA code..if I am mistaken, then make a .MDE file using access...this compiles all of your VB code...use the 3rd party program to make the standalone exe from that....

leading zeros in a field
Does any one know a way to put leading zeros in a field automatically? My employer wants a customer number field that is 8 numbers long and shows the zeros for empty spaces ( 00000001 ). create a macro that executes the make-table query, , then...create a form, , on the form on_load Function add this code..., , Dim stDocName As String, stDocName = "YOURMACRONAME", DoCmd.RunMacro stDocName, DoCmd.Closeyou can make this form any size you want...now, TOOLS->STARTUP set the display form/page to the form you just created. This form will execute the macro and then close the form.

Elementary Form Question
Sorry for this elementary question, but I am an Excel guy, and a bit new to Access: , , I have a simple database with two tables and forms. On the Main Form, I have one field (NAME) in which you can pick an employee's name from a combobox (this comes from a simple Employee Table). , , Depending on the employee chosen in the field above, I want the second field (UNITNUMBER: a textbox) to populate with the Unit the employee belongs to (this information is in the simple Employee Table). , , The resulting Unit # then goes into the Main Table with the Employee that was chosen. , , I hope this is explained adequately. , , Any help will be greatly appreciated!, , -Bob in California
