Thread 25 of 25 | Thread Starter | | | essystem | Is InterBase The Best Choice ?I develop system for stores still in CLipper 5.3 I will change to Delphi. Is the InterBase the best choice for use in customers that will not pay for traditional products as SQLServer and others ? Is IB faster enough to run in PIII 800Mhz 128 MB RAM as server for 2 to 10 machines in a LAN ? And does it keep fast even when grow about to 200,000 to 300,000 register in two or three tables ? My system handle 20 to 2000 register in terms of sells and 50 to 5000 registers in terms of selled products a day. If IB is not the best choice what should i use ?, Thank You ! |

Thread 14 of 25 | Thread Starter | | | rreiss | Incompatibility with DATE type in Paradox and CreaI recently tried to create a new table using Corel Paradox 10. I chose INTERBASE (using the free Interbase 6 download)for the table type. One table was easily created, but a second table, where I chose DATE for the date field created an error, telling me that Interbase was using TIMESTAMP. Unfortunately, TIMESTAMP is not a choice on the field type dropdown dialogue. Going the otherway and using Interbase SQL, I could create a table with a DATE datetype, but Paradox wouldn't let me add it to the datamodel on a form. Any ideas how to get around this problem?, Would I still have the problem with the Corel Linux version and Interbase for FreeBSD/Linux? (I have Corel Office for Linux on order). |

Thread 12 of 25 | Thread Starter | | | absolut | ib passwordHi again!!, , this time i have a question concerning IB and the users password., i run into smtgh that left me thinking, i dnt know if im missing smthg concerning to DB security, but here is the situation:, i installed IB and created a db, ive populated the db to my needs, and obviously change the sysdba default password to another password, then i uninstalled IB, so i could upgrade to another version i downloaded, then when i gone to use my DB i wasnt wiht the password i left it, it was with the default masterkey password, obviously i could see all the information it was within. this left a bit apreensive, as there was no real security in this . i dnt know if im missing smtgh here, even if im missing smthg very basic, but i would like to know if there is anyway to really protect mt DB with a password and prevent some one to open my DB without the pass i have set., , TIA, bruno |

Thread 4 of 25 | Thread Starter | | | Sancraian Marius | Update clients dataI have two clients conected to the same database. When a client update a record in a table, I don't know how to update the records for the other client (the client must refresh the data to update the records). How can I do this automatically?, Thanks in advance. 1 Reply: | Simon Wood | The only way that client 2 can see the changes client 1 has made is for client 2 to issue another select. You cannot force InterBase to refresh a client ! |

Thread 2 of 25 | Thread Starter | | | PANTLORD | Cannot insert into triggered interbase field.Hi there,, , I'm having trouble inserting a value into one of my interbase tables. The table in question has 5 fields, the primary key Operator_ID has a trigger set on it to autoincrement. It is a NOT NULL field as it is the primary key, so I don't enter a value via my Delphi front end. I have also set the required property for this field in Delphi to false., , I consistently am getting the message 'Field XXX requires a value however'., , Should interbase not handle this itself the trigger type is BEFORE INSERT. Within delphi I am using a DataModule with a an IBdatabase/IBTransaction/IBTable and a standard datasource as components and am attempting o do the insert via a navigation component and dbgrid. , , Any suggestions this thing is driving me crazy slowly but surely., , Thanks in advance, PL 1 Reply: | Simon Wood | I use this technique all over the place in my apps and don't see the problem that you have. I am using ObjectPAL and pass-through SQL., , Have you tried inserting a record using an INSERT statement in Windows iSQL ? If this fails then you have an InterBase problem otherwise it is something in your Delphi App, , Have you tried doing a simple hard-coded insert using a TQuery component under a button in your Delphi App ? |
