Thread 10 of 10 | Thread Starter | | | jwerfel | Suse 9.1 and Kylix 3I recently installed Kylix 3 on a new Suse 9.1 machine. The install went fine, no problems or anything. When I click on the icon to start delphi, nothing happens. It looks as if it is strting, the task appears in the taskbar and the computer appears to be doing something, but then it dies. The task disappears from the task bar, and Delphi never loads. Any ideas what is causing this? |

Thread 9 of 10 | Thread Starter | | | Hong | Kylix vs Delphi 8 . NetCan Delphi 8 .Net application can be compile in Kylix 3.0 which can be run in Linux platform? 2 replies. Last post: | Rick Carter | What some are saying is a better option is developing in Delphi 8 and using Wine or MONO. There's a chapter in Xavier Pacheco's new book about this., , There are also hints that Borland may finally break the silence and announce their plans for new support for development in Linux. Perhaps something may be announced at next week's BORCON? |

Thread 8 of 10 | Thread Starter | | | Rick Carter | Kylix Desktop Price Reduced!Starting yesterday, the price of Kylix Desktop Developer is reduced to $199 for the next 90 days. Details are at http://www.borland.com/kylix/ This is supposed to be a special offer concurrent with the release of Delphi 6, to promote cross-platform development., Here's hoping that Borland releases the "open" version of Kylix before the 90 days are up, or at least posts a list of which features are included, so that we can make an informed decision on which one can best meet our needs. 3 replies. Last post: | mprestwood | Yeah, me either. I'm sorry to say that although I have Linux on 3 boxes here, I haven't even looked at Linux in 6 months. I've dabbled in Linux and I did a few cross platform database demos with Delphi and Kylix to ADS. When I wrote four chapters for the book WordPerfect 2000 for Linux, I got into it a bit. It is a good OS, but there's no money there. Everyone wants stuff for free and that just doesn't make any sense. |

Thread 5 of 10 | Thread Starter | | | Rox | CompatibilityA question for all you linux hard-core guys., , I'm learning Delphi at the moment, but since i'm trying to move to linux too, I was wondering how portable the code realy is. Can I simply import my .dpr file with all the sources into Kylix or are there some adustments to do before that? There has to be some sort of compatibility I reckon., , Thanx :) 2 replies. Last post: | Rick Carter | You should find the article "Migrating your Delphi 5 Projects to Kylix" to be helpful (regardless if you're using a later Delphi or Kylix version, the principles are the same.) Thread 2 of 10 | Thread Starter | | | Rick Carter | Kylix ForumAny plans to add a Kylix forum?, , I'm holding out for the "open source" version to be released. Call me cheap, but my company's using Windows for everything, and I don't think I could talk them into getting me a Kylix license., , But I'm planning on getting Kylix, and trying some cross-platform things with the CLX components when Delphi 6 and Kylix "open source" come out. Will there be a place for me to discuss things on this forum? 3 replies. Last post: | mprestwood | You're welcome. If you know anyone that wants to moderate, let me know. |
