I'm new here
Hello everyone. This is the first forum I have ever joined. I'm an accounting/finance type who started doing a lot of programming in Microsoft Access. People call me an expert, but my definition of an expert is anyone who knows a little more than you do., , Originally I wrote applications for myself, so I didn't have to worry about the user-friendliness. I would write queries to extract the information I needed at the time. However, I am now writing Access Applications for other departments and have to make them very user-friendly. Everything has to be automatic, therefore, i must utilize macros, etc and create user friendly forms. That is where my problems begin and I hope I can find solutions within this group., , I'll offer any help I can, but don't expect much of me at first., , Be talking to you., , Jocat

Paradox 7 & 11
Hello folks, My name is Paul Barfoot. After reading what  great coding skills many of you have my opal skills seem so very limited and perhaps of limited or no value. I have written some Applications using Paradox 7 then delivered with Paradox 11  for use with Paradox 11 Runtime. I am 67 and have about 5% vision due to RP and that has rightly or wrongly kept me from expanding my skills and being chained to the keyboard even more than now., I have a simple personal accounting program and Last Will App on my web site that I would really like someone to look at. A local Accountant said he couldn't get it up and running so he couldn't appraise it. so I'm wondering if I should forget about it. If anyone has the time to check them out that would be  a boost. Even if you consider the applications worthless. I need an honest opinion. I have used the accounting program fro years so I know it works just fine.www.pkwapps,ca Cheers, Paul aka Pkw

Thank you Nicole, Any advice or encouragement will be most appreciated.  I am of course willing to pay whatever fees are involved ( within reason ) for an evaluation of Pkw Personal Accounting by one of the many experts. here at Prestwood. Best Regards, Paul Barfoot

I found Prestwood several years ago but I never introduced myself. My name is Daniel and I've been coding in Delphi on and off, but mostly on, since 1997. At the time, COBOL and BASIC was what I was coding in a client-server environment, before most people even knew what nTier architecture meant. Heck I didn't know, but was doing it. Someone in another department came up to me, presumably after seeking permission from my manager, and asked if I knew Delphi. I said, knew what? Having never heard of Delphi I said no, but was anxious to do something new, so I was transferred to the other department. I didn't what the future was for Delphi and it wasn't to be a .Net, however, Delphi has found me and paid me well over the past decade point five. Take care and talk to you later.

I just migrated from 9 to 11 under XP.  I have a report that prints a phonograph record album and counts the tracks if I have updated the contents of the album.  Under 9 the report shows "0" if no tracks are available.  Under 11 it defaults to "1" when no tracks are updated.  Can anyone help.  Dick Hill

File-Inventory - Master File-Contents - Child Report has a "defined Field" to count normal the number of records linked from Inventory. There is no special coding other than what is prompted by Paradox. I am not technically savvy so please bear with me.  What can I send to be more specific

My name is Dick Hill and I have been using Paradox and it's many iterations since prior to 4.  I use it to catalog a large jazz & blues record collection.  I do the album/cd inventory and then itemize each track by session date, artist etc. To date there are over 100,000 track records (no pun intended)! I just migrated from Paradox 9 to 11.  I have a report that lists an album and counts the tracks if I have added them.  The report now shows a 1 when no tracks are available.  A null count is returning "1"?  Any help here.  A new service pack? Thanks in advance. Dick

Computers are and addtional duty for me. As part of that I manage a WAN running Netware 5.0. We have about 40 users and use Paradox 9 for several different applications. I started severaly years ago with 3.5 for dos then went to 4.0 for dos and later to 7 for windows and finally to 9. I consider myself an intermediate programmer. I do about 80% of what is needed here and go to a local "expert" when I need him. The forums are good. Gives you an insight into what other people are dealing with on a daily basis and oftentimes I pick up ideas

Darron Who?
Hello, All. I know Novell, MacIntosh, DOS, Unix, and Windows OSes, MS Office Apps including Access, and VB for Apps. I use MS Access 97 as a front end for SQL Server 2000 at work. I use MS Access XP Developer at home. I know Cat II Motif, using X-Windows if I have too. I have the MS VDE at work, including VC++ but I know very little about its use. I use Groupwise and Zenworks at work. I am A+ certified by Comptia and CNA certified by Novell. I am a certified technician for Intertel Phone systems. And I have a Wife, Son, Dog, and Cat. I also teach (Novell) at the local community college 1 night a week, and I bowl. Wheww, I just realized how tired I am. Big Grin!

Greetings! Found this from a friend. I know a little about a lot. Currently developing proficiency in paradox. And to cut through the chase, I am asking my question right here!, Paradox10, Windows XP, I need to assign a value to a command button's label by using a string variable...such as variable declared str1 as string, command button label name is lb1. I need to have a counter and build the label name as str1 made up as "lb" + counter and then assign the value such as str1.value = 594., Any suggestions??, , Thank you all!!

Hi All -
My name is Max B. and although I'm not new to PSD - I am new to these boards / forums.  I've been programming full time for the last 10 years  - I started back in the mid 80's with R:Base and Basic - and then moved to VB in the late 90's.  It was about 10 years ago when I first became acquainted with PSD - as I had changed to Paradox and before I forget - wanted to say Hi to Scott and Dan if they're still around --- as they were both instrumental at that time. I now do most of my programming in VB .NET and SQL, So - it's good to be here. Max,

Top of the mornin to ye!
Greetings from cold and wet Dublin! I'm joining this group in the hopes of learning somehting about Paradox. I find myself in a position of supporting an old but heavily used system, and although it appears to be pretty stable, have the odd issue now and then. Been figuring things out on my own..but some things I just don't know where to start. I myself am a SQL Server DBA who also currently does Lev 4 Dev support and some good old fashioned web development (asp classic), so I'm not completely useless :) Cheers Shellbot

Hello Everybody
Hi there, I'm Kefkolo (aka Kirk), A friend sent me the link here after I told him my goal of learning Asp.net and C# by the end of the year. I'm sort of new to programming. I took Assembler and Cobol in school back in the dark ages. I know HTML, CSS and a scripting language from Macro Express. But that's about it. I hail from a suburb of Dallas, Tx. Married with three kids and 4 grandkids. One of my sons is a programmer. I just want to say to all you skilled programmers I really appreciate your helping us newbies. And to all the newbies, I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I'm planning to. P.S. Mike, I'll try and get my picture posted as soon as I get one of myself on the computer. :-)
