Thank You Mike.  It took me a while to find it before, and a quick source is always handy.  To be honest when I needed the file I did not even think about lookiing through your resources.  Duh!  I feel a bit slow of mind when I think about it. Thanks Ralph --- Ralph Maxwell

Opening multiple tables at once
I need to open a data table and run through it checking a particular field for matches in a separate look up table. I need to flip repeatedly between two open tCursors. I declared my two tCursors and opened them expecting them to open independently, like so: tc.open("one") get the string tc2.open("two"), expecting two to be opened in another work area. search a match for the string in Two's FIND field if found manipulate the string tc2.close() update one's data with the string, expecting one to just be there and selected. move to the next record and repeat What am I missing in the way these tables/tcursors need to be opened or selected? The way it is now tc2 doesn't seem to be being selected when it's opened. NONE of code examples I checked online used two tCursors in the same code block.

It's a shame these useful products like Paradox and FoxPro never got upgraded to 64 bit. They would still have their place I think.

longint to autoincrement? vica versa?

Sorry to have dropped out of the conversation.  I think you better do a simple proof of concept test before working with all that data.  Build a simple two field table with an autoinc and and alpha field.  Enter a couple of data records.  Restructure the table to make the autoinc a longint.  Try and convert the longint back to an autoinc.  You will not be able to convert the longint back to an autoinc.

Temporary table resource limit
Hi I have to say I'm not much of a DB user. I play mostly in spreadsheets (QPW8 is my fav). Anyways I was assigned the task of importing a txt file with 4.1 million records. I have pumped up the BDE settings and am using the updated BDE. Thru truncating some fields I was able to get 3.8 million records out of the file before a table full error. My goal is to get as many records as possible, and then query them into a variety of smaler tables., My real problem is when I try to do anything with this table .. sort it, query it, whatever. I get a "temporary table resource limit" error. BTW, I'm using PDX 8 though that seems to matter. Ironically I also tried to import this file into Firebird SQL but it choked at around 2 million entries and it's just as finnicky. It seems large tables are taxing to just about everything. I have half a mind to try MySQL on my websirte server location but that's probably just as limited.,

Using Secondary Indexes
I have Paradox 9 and I created a database with a key.  I set up a secondary sort using the Secondary Index under Restructure Table.  Everything looks fine and I hit save but the sort does not change on the table.  My reports and forms also sort by the key, not by the Secondary Index.  I got no error messages.  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks.

Yes!!!! Thank you all so much for your help and sorry for the delay in responding, I was busy on other projects so I just got a chance to look at this again.  I see now, when in design mode I right click on the All Records band and choose Sort and that will allow me to change the sort.  Thanks again, I can now move forward (or at least attempt to) with my project  :-)  Teresa

Field size help needed
I am fairly new to Paradox, I am using Version 8., My question is, how can I limit the amount of characters that a user can input on a form. I am using a DBASE IV table in Paradox. I have set the field size to 3 characters, but when I type on the form I am allowed to type up to 254 characters even though I assigned my field size to 3 characters? It gives me an error (you have exceeded the amount of characters) Is there any code that I can limit the user to only 3 characters? Can I use Picture Assistance? Please Help, , thanx

One last comment. If the table is not truly version 7/8 (many created are not, since version 4 seems to be the default unless newer field types are used), you can use TUTILITY to try and do the repair.

Corrupted header/index Thumbs.db
I've been  using Paradox 10 for many years and been doing some basic codings on my WIndows XP service pack 3. Lately I found errors when I wanted to evoke table look up when constructing new table. It precisely said my header/index  Thumbs.db was corrupted. "Table repair" and "table rebuild" of Thumbs.db didn't help. I did a fresh reinstallation of Paradox 10. This didn't help either. Is there a way of overcoming this problem?

Steve. This is really a great help. Thank you. My problem is solved. It never crossed my mind that that picture files in the same folder as my paradox tables could create such havoc. Thank you again.

Export to text
Has anyone come across this?  I'm using Paradox 9 in Windows XP and found that if I export a table to text and choose "Use field names as first row of data",  record #1 in the table is lost from the text file.  If I don't choose "Use field names as first row of data" then record #1 remains in the text file.  The obvious solution is to add a "dummy" entry #1 on the table before the export.,

I forgot to point out that this occurs when I choose to export to ASCII Delimited txt, not ASCII fixed.

too long file name, tables won't open
my problem of being unable to open tables because the file name is too long for a version 5 table - I've read in one of my texts that the later versions support long file names.  All I want to do is open the tables.  Since I've had no reply to a way to change the cumulative pathways, could there be another option?  Is there a way to change the tables from the earlier version that doesn't support long file names to my later version 11 Paradox.  Lacking a way to do this the  easy way (I couldn't find anything in the literature to do this, i.e. changing the table version), would it be possible to find out exactly the original paradox version of the table, copy the table to that version so it would open.  Then would there be a way to import the table data to a table constructed under the new version (the design duplicated from the table opened in the earlier non-long file name version).

Sorry, it took me a while to get back to you. In the mean time, I bought a new W10 computer and re-installed P11. The problem with the tablenames has been fixed now. Unfortunately, an other problem occured. But I will look for the right thread to see if I can find an answer. Thank you for your help!

Error Opening Tables on one Alias Only
We are attempting to open a table using the Project Viewer. For any table under one specific alias we get the following error message:-  'You have attempted to open a database that is in use by someone else, but the database cannot be shared.  You must set the location for the .NET control file.'  This error only appears on one specific machine.  All our other machines appear fine.  Any thoughts?   Cheers  Steve

Table Corruption
We seem to have a reoccurring problem at just one of our client's offices. There are two tables (both have a key field) that have become corrupt about once a month for the past three months. We have successfully repaired the tables by using the table repair utility. Both of these tables are used heavily on a daily basis. Each time our research has shown that the time stamps of the original .db & it's .px file are out of sync. What would cause this? Our suspicions are network connectivity issues, however, how do you prove this sort of thing? We're considering removing the key field in order to eliminate the .px's but I'm not sure if that'll do the trick., , Background info: Paradox 10 application being used on Windows NT systems., , Any suggestions?
I will write extra codes to block the F7 button.
As mentioned, unless you have your own custom menus replacing the default ones in all cases, they can still get there from the menu. As a general principle of ObjectPAL programming, it's better to trap for any occurrence of the event. Don't assume the users aren't going to find ways to get in that you wouldn't have thought of.

Table is read-only??????????
Hi there can someone help. I am using version 8 of paradox and I am having a problem with a newly created form. The form existed previously ans a few aesthetic changes have been made. However, when I try to run the program now I get the error message:, , "An error occured when setting the property named 'Value' of the object named 'Job_Number' of type 'Field'. The table is read-only.", , I have traced the problem to one particular section of code. This section posts a new record with a new job number which is taken from a table and incremented by one. If I comment out one line of code the form runs properly. This line is, , JOB_Number.value=currjob, , currjob is simply the value of the new job. Has anyone seen problems like this before cause this is really causing me probelms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tcursors rounding number fields to 2 decimals
I have a number field in a table that stores gallons value up to 3 decimal places. I have placed a format on the field so it displays properly. When I open the table directly and look at the column and it shows the value rounded to 2 decimals however if I click in the field it will then show all 3 decimals so I know the actual value is being stored. The problem I am having is when I use a tcursor to open the table and try to get the value of that field it will only give me the rounded value and not the full 3 decimal place value. I need the full 3 decimal value so I can accurately use it for other calculations.  Help would be greatly appreciated.

Database Desktop on Windows 10
I've been using Database Desktop for years to maintain Paradox tables, but it now appears that DBD doesn't work on Windows 10 for build 1703 or later.  Is there an updated DBD that does work?  Or is there an alternative tool I can use?  I've found several tools that will let me view and modify the data in Paradox tables, but none that will let me modify the table structures.  Any suggestions?
