Combo Boxes
Ok lets see if I can tell you my problem without exploding., I want to be able to choose an Item from my combo box and then based on my choice display a label telling me the full name of the choice. The Combo box will display abrev. names like Chris instead of Christopher or Dept instead of Department., Then I want a label to say: Dept = Department. Is this possible?, I hope I was clear[*]null

Re: Combo Boxes
See if This Works: , 1. Create a Text File Containing all Abr & Explanations, DEPT ; Department, CLS ; Clear Screen, . ; ., Blah ; BlahThen Read the pairs into an Array, , Dim prs() , Open sFile For Input As #99, cnt = 0, While Not EOF(99), cnt = cnt + 1, Line Input #99, myLine, LineArray = split(myLine,";"), redim Preserve prs(2,cnt), prs(0,cnt) = lineArray(0), prs(1,cnt) = lineArray(1), Wend, Close #1now you can populate the combobox from prs(0,n), for xx = 1 to cnt, me.ComboBox1.AddItem prs(0,xx), nextfinally you can display the definition of the selected abr., . . . inside click event , for xx = 1 to ubound(prs,2), if me.ComboBox1.Text = prs(0,xx) then, msgbox prs(0,xx) & " = " & prs(1,xx), end if, nextHope this helps

Re: MshFlexGrid ....Display Totals at the change o
Not Sure If I Understand the Problem but here goes anyway, , , By iterating through the msFlexGrid.Textmatrix() Property it is possible to read, and or change the values displyed, , , i.e. , Dim tot as long, ' imagine col to add up= 3rd col ( 0,1,2) , ' leave out row 0 as it usually has headings , for x = 1 to me.msflexgrid1.Rows, tot = tot + me.msflexgrid1.textmatrix(2,x), next, msgbox "Total of Col 3 = " & totHope this helps

Look at MSDE - a Royalty free SQL Sserver engine that comes with VB6.0, MSDN or MS Office 2000 premium., If you have one of these, you can use the MSDE engine free of charge! ( it's basically a Full Fledged SQL Server without the GUI ), Search for MSDE on MSDN.com

Re: simple code problem
The CommonDialog Control will return the NAME of the file you have selected, , , Open the file using the File SystemObject as Follows ( you have to have added a ref to the Windows Scripting Runtime - NB! ) , , set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject"), Set ts = fso.OpenTextFile( FileName , For Appending, False) , 'get File's Text, MyTextBox.text = ts.readall, 'Close Text Stream, ts.closeWarning - This will read the entire file into memory (watch out for those 5Gb Lists! Big Grin! , , You can however read the file in line by line by using the , while not ts.endoftextStream, myLine = ts.readline, wendHope This Helps

simple code problem
making a word processor, one button is named"Open" button, this opens a text file. After adding the CommonDialog1, the code entered:, , Private Sub cmdOpen_Click(), CommonDialog1.ShowOpen, Text1.Text = CommonDialog1.FileName, End Sub, , is suppposed to open a .txt file. I had a text file to test, and the text becomes the path to my file, ie C:/Ccourse1/test.txt instead of the actual text held in the file, Please help ASAP

calling C dll from VB6: parameter passing
Hi,, I am calling a C dll function from VB6. It's not showing any error when linking to the dll and the function is called properly. But when I print the parameter values inside the dll function, correct values are not found. , , the C function prototype is:, void Analyze_Data (char* goldFile, char* capturedFile, int tolerance);, , I am calling from VB as:, , Private Declare Function Analyze_Data _, Lib "U:\new-Viewer\Viewer\analysis1.dll" ( _, ByVal gold_file_name As String, _, ByVal capture_file_name As String, _, ByVal Tolerance As Long _, ), , Analyze_Data(gfile, capfile, tol), , When I print the values from the dll function, the first parameter is always emtpy, the second parameter is getting the value of the actual first parameter that is passed and third parameter is garbage., , Please let me know if anyone knows why the parameters are not passed properly.

Multi User Problem - VB/Access
Hi All,, , I have written a Multi-User App in VB6.0 (sp4) communicating to the Clients Access (2000) database. First User all is ok, but when other instances of the App log-in, I get "Must use an Updateable Query", , my connections settings are as follows:, ConnectionString = , "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\Directory\Access.MDB", , RecordSet definitions are as follows (e.g.):, rs.open "some sql statement",conn,adOpenDynamic,adLockOptimistic, , From what I have been able to find in various doco, these settings should allow multiuser updates to the tables in the database. ( or am I wrong again ?). , , Please help - Urgent!!!, many Thanks, , RobZ
