Unknown internal operating system error
I cut and paste images into an image field on a Paradox form and I've been doing this with no problems for years; yesterday I got a message saying 'Unknown internal operating system error' with a reference to the .MB file, when I tried to paste an image in. Paradox hung. After restarting, I verified and rebuilt the table and it imported the image ok but when I tried to do it with a new record the same thing happened. I'm using Paradox 10.0.0.663 running on a Lenovo laptop with Vista Home Premium and Service Pack 2. The database has 121,900 records in it but not all of them have images. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.,

Thanks!  I've used ChimneySweep before (probably have a license for it!), but I'd forgotten about it.  Thanks for the heads-up/reminder!  I'll check it out.  (As I recall, it was very useful in fixing things that the built-in "fixer" couldn't fix.  I'll try to dig it up & see what it can do with these memo fields!) Thanks again! Aloha, -pt

how to re-attach .Mxx files (memo fields) to a .DB
I have experienced the disappearance of ALL memo field values (multiple memo fields, thousands of records) in at least one table (although the *.Mxx files still exist). Based on info from another, old thread, I understand that there‘s neither a "built-in recovery tool" nor a "simple recovery process" to re-attach .Mxx files to a .DB, but where might I find the explanation of a tool or process--regardless of complexity--to explain how to do it myself? Thanks in advance for any help! Aloha, Philip T. (PT@PhilipT.com)

duplicate post.. you have to write a routine to scan the table and reinsert the files/data

Memo Field Accepting "Hard Return"
I have been away from Paradox for a few months, but am in the process of updating some of my old work., , I was wondering how I would set a memo-field to accept "Returns", or to simulate a line break from the keyboard., Users enter brief trip reports and have been complaining they cannot separate their paragraphs properly. I haven't been able to find any properties which look promising, but I'm sure this problem has been solved in some way or another on this board. , , Thanks in advance, Eric

makeDir(varname) - or, how to convert var to const
I need to use a (string) variable as a parameter for makeDir, but it only accepts a constant as a parameter. For example: n = 1 while n <4    stVar = "dirname" + string(n)    makeDir(stVar) endwhile How to get around this...?   Thanks! -pt

in many situations, an empty table can cause an error when you try to address it's field values, especially if you're in View mode and there isn't actually a record there.. it's more obvious when you scan an empty or filtered table

RE: howto display on form if rec e
Steven, Thanks for the quick reply! I still don't really understand; what value (even null?) does the not-found linked table/record return?  i.e., what value does "[piertaxa.TaxonCode]" return, and why isn't this value <> to the value that "[TAXA.TaxonCode]" returns? Aloha, -pt

Simple Paradox Question
I am using Paradox vs. 8. How in the world do you get rid of the Startup Expert when I open up Paradox????? Yes I know there is a check box that says "Don't Show The Startup Expert Again" but if I check it and try to save my Desktop State it Doesn't Work??? This is very annoying... can anyone please help..

If it happens again (and this recent time was not the first), I'll try & make a more "scientific" process of troubleshooting & will report the results then. Aloha, philiptdotcom,
