Re: Linking Ettiqette
I am not talking about reciprocal links., , I run a genealogy site that links to hundreds (now) other sites. When I say "links" I mean we have a short description of someone else's site, and link to that site's homepage., , I guess what I don't get it why someone would take all the time and effort to put up a website, and then not want people to see it., , Essentially, this piece of our genealogy site is a portal to other genealogy sites based on either the US state of reference in the pages, or (in a seperate section of the site) military conflict., , It looks something like this (although prettier Big Grin!:, ----------------------, http://www.ancetry.com , This is a pay site with a number of transcribed documents and online databases., ----------------------, , That's it.

Silly Kylix Question
Kylix for Linux, , Does this mean that Kylix will not run under AIX or Sun systems? Or is it just not supported. Forgive my asking, I don't do enough in any of these areas to realize any real differences., , - Brian

What to Program
Ok I'm sure people have had this problem before, just wondering what is to be done. I am a professional mainframe programmer that "dabbles" in PC/internet programming as a way of keeping my sanity... So I have found this great new language to program in, and really want to work on something that might actually get used sometime by at least one or two people... , , The problem I run into is that while I am fairly good with the actual technical part of programming, my imagination sucks, and I just can't think of anything to work on., , I'm not looking to make any money with this. I just have this great new language to work with, and nothing to "show off" my new found skills., , What do other people do in this situation? please tell me I am not alone in this Big Grin!, , - Brian

Where do your ideas come from?
I posted this on the "Just Conversation" Board, but wanted to post here as well, since I am specifically interested in working in Delphi., , For those of you that are doing this for "fun", where do you get your ideas for what to program? I have done some programming based on a personal need, or a friend saying "I wish I had a program to ..." , , Now I am without either, and itching to do some development. So I find myself asking, "Where do other people get their ideas from?", , Thoughts?, Brian

In light of our previous discussion, I found this excellent article on the subject of Delphi (and whether or not it's dead...) Big Grin! , , , Title:, Real Programmers Use Pascal, , , [i]Share it with your friends. Telnet Client Source?
I was wondering if anyone knew a place that I might be able to get my hands on some Delphi Source code for a reasonably well laid out telnet client. I am currently working on creating a client specific to an online game a friend of mine runs, but see no sense in reinventing the wheel if someone has something, or knows of something I could work off from., , - Brian

Check out http://users.swing.be/francois.piette/icsuk.htm . It is freeware with full source. I don't know how good the telnet client is but I use the HTTP client all the time and I find it works quite well. He also includes sample applications as well., , ------------------, , -------------------------, William Pantoja, Sr. Software Engineer, eTotalSource, Inc.

Re: Just Wondering
Maybe I did something wrong, but nothing came up. However, on the other hand, this is Maine we are talking about, so not getting any hits doesn't really surprise me all that much. However, I did just go look around for Delphi positions, and I completely see your point. You've convinced me of one thing...I am in the wrong place to be trying to make a living programming

I'm sorry, I didn't understand the second half of your question. Are you asking how you can change the font and color, or how you can keep it from happening?

Breaking Out Strings
I need to interface a Delphi project I am working on with an existing application. I do not have the ability to modify the existing application, and so am stuck trying to fit my design to meet this older code. That said here is my problem:, , I can accept a string of "any" length into my application. However the older application I am working with can only handle strings up to 72 characters long. I can easily take care of this problem if there is a way to break my string into 72 character segments. (the other application can handle multiple 72 character strings - go figure), , What i would like to do is have some way of saying:, , a := b (from 1 for a length of 72 chars), interface to the existing app, a := b (from 73 for a length of 72 chars), interface to the existing app, etc..., , Is there some type of function or something that can do this?
