Out of Index
I have gotten a few "out-of-index" errors since upgrading to Win 7 on one of the clients. I run PDOX 9 with one box acting as a server (only) and 4 clients. I know how to fix the problem with the table repair utility but I was perplexed on what was causing it. After a little reseearch I found the error is prob caused when I tried to access the table from two different places on the local computer. I haven't received the error since then so there is a good chance that is the cause of the problem. The error didn't occur when I was doing the same thing with XP, only with Win 7. I'm not sure why Win 7 would be more senstive than XP but not being able to access tables from mutiple locations on a local computer is not a big deal...so I don't do it anymore. JB

RE: {Too Long}
I had a real good experience with the Prestwood IT team when I converted my workstations from XP to Win7. I was getting .net directory errors. Their pricing was very fair and, in my case, I had no problem paying to get the problem resolved because I was wasting way too much time trying to fix it on my own. Good luck with whichever route take on this! JB

RE: Frequent waiting
A new feature of Win 7 is it creates virtual off-line files from the server to the workstations. In my case, the workstations were "confused" were "hanging" or getting .net directory errors. I disabled the offline feature on the workstations and the problem went away. If your IT guy doesn't have any issue with this solution maybe it will work. JB

RE: Win7/Paradox 9
The error also happens when Paradox is not closed properly and a "renegade" .lck or .net file is created on the computer on the local drive. Part of the problem with Win 7 is finding the renegade file. Mike's Remlock app works fine if the renegade file is not in a hidden folders but doesn't located them in hidden files. Furthermore, Win 7 makes it difficult to search into hidden files, even when you check off the boxes. I had to find the renegade files by going into the root dir with the following command @ dir c:\*lck/s It shows where the renegade file is and then you can delete it!

Win7/Paradox 9
I still use Paradox 9 but I have recently updated my entire network to Win7 from XP. I occasionally get the notorius "Directory controlled by other .net" error. It is caused by the renegade .net or .lck files however after I delete them, I still get the "directory controlled errors" until I "clear" out the port on the network. To clear out the port I have to run the port thur box that isn't getting the errors, open paradox on the network and then re-plug the network cable back into original computer. I don't now why just deleting the renegade .lck or .net files is not enough on Win7 or why I have to clear out the port thru another computer "fixes" the "directory contolled by other .net" error. I never experienced this with XP. Anyone have any thoughts on this. JB

Pardox 11 vs Paradox 9
I got pdox 11 from corel and I really don't see any difference from pdox 9. Are there any real advantages or differences in pdox 11, other than pdox 11 doesn't have the menu app? Is pdox11 more compatible with Win7 than pdox9?,

Win 7 Pdox 9
For me PDOX9 with Win7 works in a stand-alone and as a server in a network. Right now I have PDOX9 on my server with Win7 and the 4 network members on XP. The only problem I get is when I try to run a client with Win7. Then I get BDE errors. Not sure why, but running XP on my client servers is not a problem...right now!,

Windows 7 / BDE
Hi, I'm new to this group but old to PDOX. I have a small network of 5 and the transition to W7 was seamless except it was essential to use a folder in the net dir as opposed to the root directory.

Welcome John! Feel free to post as you see fit here.  I linked this post to the P9/Win7 article so this thread shows up at the bottom of that article. http://www.prestwoodboards.com/ASPSuite/KB/document_view.asp?qid=102247&GroupID=
