RE: Change color on form
My ObjectPAL is a bit rusty, but to the best of my memory, here's what I think is going on:
  • Dan's code did not anticipate changing colors back when changing records. To handle that, you'll need to have some code on another event -- IIRC, I think you want the "arrive" method for the object.
  • I think the reason checking the box again on another record doesn't change things back is because the variable "siColor" goes out of scope when the record changes. Declaring that variable in the object's "var" method should insure that it persists, and can be recalled again.
  • Kevin, if you're still struggling with this, I may be able to look up some code at work which does something similar. Post back to let me know if this would be helpful.,

Cease and Desist: ParadoxCommunity no more!
According to a post by Tony McGuire to comp.databases.paradox, Corel's lawyers have sent a "cease and desist" letter saying that the use of the domain names ParadoxCommunity.com and ParadoxDay.com will no longer be permitted., So what is it with Corel, that they don't want anybody saying something good about their product and drumming up interest?, Sheesh!

That QC link now needs to be http://qc.embarcadero.com/wc/qcmain.aspx?d=3820 That report only had two votes, which may be part of the reason it's still not fixed. I added one vote; perhaps others can do the same?,

    Chalnick's "Incremental Search Object&quo
Is anyone else using Leon Chalnick's "Incremental Search Object" that was included with his "Killer Paradox 5" book? The tool has been the easiest and fastest for searching that I've found to date, but I've discovered that if a filter is set, the tool sometimes disregards the filter or drops it. I've looked at the code and can't figure out where this is happening. Does anybody know a work-around?

    RE: Chalnick's "Incremental Search Object
Nope, Mike, and maybe a year after that post, the routine suddenly became slow, slow, slow, on certain computers in our network, and I never did figure out why.  I ended up just writing a different custom lookup tool. You haven't heard much from me because, after over a year of single drug chemotherapy for lymphoma, my blood counts still weren't going back up, so I'm now going through some more intensive multi-drug chemo treatments. The good news is they seem to be knocking out more of the "bad guy" cancer cells, but in the short term it's very fatiguing, and my mental concentration is limited. Hopefully things will be looking up in a few months.,

A shame Corel doesn't know how to do anything but run what was once such an excellent product into the ground, and yet they're so protective about the name! Mike, do they even remember who you are, and all you've done to promote Paradox and help its users over the years? Probably not. Well, thanks from me for all you've done, Mike, for what it's worth! We can only hope that Borland/CodeGear/Embarcadero never license off another one of their excellent products to such deadbeats again!

    The Turbos are back!
In case anyone hasn't heard, Borland's Developer Tools Group has recently released a new "Turbo" line of products, single language products with nearly all the features of Borland Developer Studio Pro. "Turbo Explorer" is a free download, and allows commercial deployment, with the major restriction being that third party components can't be installed and used at design time (though they can be initialized in code and used at runtime). Upgrading to "Turbo Pro" removes this restriction., , http://www.turboexplorer.com/

Rick, Talk about a late reply!  Sorry about that. Having used Delphi since v1, I'm pleased that Borland has spun off Code Gear to handle their development tools. I'm disappointed, though, with two things: 1) Delphi 2007 does Win32 only - no .NET, 2) The "Turbo" prices are definitely not back!  Wes

    Re: Upgrade Paradox BDE?
Strange! BDE 5.2.0.2 has been out since May 2001, so I'm not sure why it was not deployed with Paradox 10. Then again, that could be part of the reason Paradox 10 never worked as well for me, as Paradox 9 SP 4., , One of the easiest ways to install the latest BDE is with the tool provided at http://ibinstall.defined.net/dl_bdeinfo.htm -- be sure to first back up IDAPI.CFG if you have your own aliases., , If you want a definitive answer on whether the latest BDE will cause a problem with Paradox 10, you may want to check at borland.public.bde -- you can read and post from http://newsgroups.borland.com if you're not set up with a newsreader for the Borland groups.

    Re: New Version of Paradox?
Dream on. They just might change the version number or the splash screen, but I wouldn't expect any new features. Corel managmement has already said as of a few years ago that they're not allocating any resources toward the further development of Paradox.

    State Project
I am student in a programming class, but was looking for some help. I am developing a project that involves building a program that when I type in a state it will display the information about the state in the display box. I have all the information about the states in a bin file and I am trying to first declare a form-level record structure, but when I follow the code that is in my book it doesn't work. I am also trying to code the display button so that it will display the correct information in the display text but in a certain format. If anyone has an examples, suggestions, or anywhere I can go that can be more of help then my text book I would really appreciate it. Thank You

Please don't make multiple posts with the same content., , What programming language are you using?, , You're more likely to get help if you post a few lines of the code you are using, and say what error messages you're getting.

    EnumSecStruct & Create Problem
I had a problem creating a NEW table from and ORIGINAL table. The Original was PW Protected by a master password, no auxiliary. The following OPAL would not produce a PW protected NEW table. The TEMP table created by EnumSecStruct was EMPTY., , VAR, TBL TABLE, ENDVAR, , TBL.ATTACH("ORIGINAL"), TBL.ENUMSECSTRUCT("TEMP"), , Tbl=Create "NEW" like "ORIGINAL" , SECSTRUCT "TEMP", Key "Tnum" , endcreate, , I tried the code on Pdox 7, 9 and 10 with the same results. I finally found the problem., When you PW protect the ORIGINAL, you MUST include the Master PW as an Auxiliary PW., , I hope this will help somebody so they won't have to spend hours trying to determine if Pdox is GFU.

    Re: EnumSecStruct & Create Problem
Hmm. If you ever again need to get a password-free table interactively, the easiest way is to do a query with all fields checked (SELECT *) and then copy or rename the resulting answer table., , Which also points out a possible "gotcha" with security of Paradox data. Even if your original, table is encrypted, chances are every users' hard drive has a bunch of answer tables with lots of data -- especially if you are using Paradox 7, which never automatically deletes answer tables.
