Re: Word Ducument
Sorry. You need to declare file_to_open as a string.
var, app application, file_to_open string, endvar, , file_to_open = "C:\\My Documents\\2006Burn\\Button.doc", , ShellExecuteA(app.windowclienthandle(),"open",file_to_open,"","",3)Alternately:, , , var, app application, stPath,, stFile string, endvar, , stPath="C:\\My Documents\\2006Burn", stFile = "Button.doc", , ShellExecuteA(app.windowclienthandle(),"open",stFile,"",stPath,3), If you pass an empty file name but include the path, Windows opens Windows Explorer on the path.

How do you add/subtract time?
I am currently writing a small program that will work as a time clock for our employees so they can clock in and out of work as they come and go, i got to the part where if the employee wanted to view their hours for the current week they could click a button and it would calculate the dates and times from monday-sunday of that week and would show them in a report, but when trying to write the part to get the total number of hours worked for each day, (or the week for that matter) i began to get confused, in your opinions, what is the most efficient way to go about doing this ? Thanks, David

Can you use a datetime field, and subtract number(out) from number(in)? Or maybe longint(); not sure if longint goes high enough for datetime(), though. This would result in milliseconds, I think, and you'd have to convert to hours/minutes/seconds.

RE: Why is cSum unknown method?
Missed that, sorry. I copied your code and pasted it into a script that acted on the orders.db sample table. NO changes. Ran just as it should; no error on 'check syntax' nor when executing. I think you have a different issue going on.

RE: Can't find jPdox Web Utilities (.pdf)...
The java stuff doesn't work. Or at least no one I know has succeeded with it. Rather, go directly to the Web OCX on the server, supported by Paradox. With straight HTML. A 'Tutorial' is available at http://thedbcommunity.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=3&id=71&Itemid=44 or http://tinyurl.com/28dh8d if the first wraps to unusable.

RE: NO SUBJECT!
I've never heard of your situation.   Where do you use F12 as something to do with a filter?   Can you explain where you are in Paradox, and what you are doing?       (Who is Monica Allen, who I am shown as logged in as?)

Re: DataEntry and DoIt!
"Can anyone tell me how to use ObjectPAL (or some simpler way) to append data from one table to another?", , Use a tcursor, and copyrecord if the record structures of the tables are IDENTICAL., , Or, a tcursor and copytoarray(dynarray) and copyfromarray(dynarray) if the record structures are not identical., , Seem the easiest.

DataEntry and DoIt!
This is my first post. I recently converted my Jazz CD database from PDOX 3.5 (DOS) to PDOX 9 (Windows). It's normalized and has five tables. The one listing what musician played what instrument on what track on what CD has over 16,000 records., , In PDOX 9 I do not find the familiar "dataentry" menu item where I can add records into a blank table and then automatically append them (the famous F2 key) to the actual table. Since my table is keyed, any entries get immediately sorted, and this messes me up with the "Ditto" feature (CTRL, D)., , Is there a way to handle this in interactive PDOX or is there a way to create a form to enter data unsorted and then with ObjectPAL add a button to append the data to the desired table?

paradox running slow
Was wondering if there was a tool that would defragment paradox. I have an application running that is getting slower, and data sometimes vanishes. I presume this is to fragmentation of the harddisk. Will the windows defrag utility fix this, or is there something within the paradox application to fix the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated., CC

Re: paradox running slow
If you are losing data, block size and table size may be a culprit., , You may want to up the block size in the BDE (16k?), create a new table identical to the one you have and copy the records to it. This will give you a table that can handle (store) more data., , It also gives you a table that is 'defragged'. Meaning if you have deleted records you recover the space they were taking up., , By changing the BDE setting, it applies ONLY to NEW tables. Preexisting tables are NOT changed. That's why you may want to create a new table AFTER making the change in the BDE - this gives you a fresh table with the larger block size.

Re: p13 losing settings
Originally posted by PeterRausch:, [qb] Well that sounds like reason enough not to upgrade from version 9 to version 13. [/qb]
While there aren't many reasons to move to p11, the service pack that fixes the break in viewing remote aliases caused by xp sp2 might be one., , The issue cited in this thread isn't a show stopper. You simply remove the file from the RUN section of the registry, and delete the file if you wish, and your settings no longer get messed with. , , Not a big deal at all, once you know what to look for. Definitely an annoyance until you take care of it, though.

Re: Breakapart Name to LNAME and FNAME
if you have LnameFname then the breakapart would result in only one array element., , So trying to assign ar[2] would get you that error message., , How about , , ; break on BOTH space AND comma, breakapart(tc."Name",ar," ,"), , ; you always get one array element, tc."Lname"=ar[1], , ; highest array element, even if only one., tc."Fname"=ar[ar.size()], , Now, when it was lastnamefirstname with neither comma or space, everything goes into both fields., , Scan back through the table and test for, tc."Lname"=tc."Fname", and write out a textstream of record number or somesuch - and then handle the corresponding records manually., , Help?

Re: PARADOX 3.5 - RUN ON VISTA ?
Early reports are that pdoxDOS 4.5 (maybe 4.02) run on Vista., , 3.5 deosn't work completely reliably on win2k (specific issues) or later., , As far as 'can't be bothered' - it has been 15 years since a Windows version hit the shelves. Don't expect a whole lot of sympathy if you can't keep it running at this point, with a reply like 'can't be bothered'.

Re: view report
Print the report to pdf995, and show the .pdf file rather than using Paradox., , pdf995 costs $9.95, and is available at pdf995.com, , Otherwise, you can also build your own menu and replace the menu that displays while the report is on screen., , But as far as I know you cannot make a report a modal window; only for forms.

Re: Paradox 9 and secure HTTPS
To get https, use Apache and its ssl module (for version 1... only as far as I know., , Then proxy thru to Paradox for specific requests., , I don't use the ssl stuff in Paradox, but many do., , Check out an article on it by Dennis Santoro at:, , http://www.rdaworldwide.com/pdox/proxyocx.pdf  , , And other Paradox articles by Dennis and others:, http://www.rdaworldwide.com/pdoxres.htm

Has anyone used secure https protocol with the Corel Web Server Control? If so, how do you setup your secure certificate.
