RE: Export table to spreadsheet
Another approach is a free 3rd party (ancient) tool called Sportamok's Paradox dBase Reader (v2.2.0). When I'm sharing database files with non-Paradox users, that's what I suggest.

Search multiple Scripts
Howdy, Is there a way to search for something (a variable name, for example) across multiple scripts (and each section of those scripts, like run, var, proc, etc.)? In the ideal world, I'd like the output to be something like:    script1.ssl   proc   1732   the line of code with the search phrase I suppose I might have to write my own script to do it - but was hoping for something easier. (My big project has code split across several scripts because of the size limitations built-in to Paradox.) Thanks, David

RE: Opening multiple tables at onc
I would do it something like this: hT.attach("h.db"), hTC.open(hT), hTC.edit(), dT.attach("d.db"), dTC.open(dT) scan dTC:,    if hTC.locate("key",dTC."field12") then,       hTC."field3"="whatever",    endif, endscan hTC.endedit(), hTC.close(), dTC.close() You may also want to consider whether it can just be done through a Query.

X7 Pro is same old Paradox 11 version
Just a bit of information, talked with Corel support this evening and found out that X7 pro has the exact same version of Paradox as X5 with the update - that is to say Paradox 11.0.0.676. I can't say that I'm surprized :-)

Glenn, Its the same version - so it won't be any different than what you have now. I haven't heard of the error you mentioned.

Code in a Form question
I've done a good bit of ObjectPAL programming and quite a bit of work on Forms - but I've never mixed the two! The database (myData.db) I'm working with has this structure: mdPerson (A8); mdEvent (A4); mdYear (SmallInt); mdMonth (SmallInt) I have a form based on that database which is primarily a crosstab of mdMonth (column) by mdEvent (row) with the content of the cells being Count(myData.mdPerson) [Thus it gives me a count of how many of each event type occurred in each month.] What I have been doing is manually setting a Filter (from the Format menu) something like mdYear > 1999 What I would like to have is a form where I can do that in the form itself. So I've added to the form these fields: myYear (SmallInt);  myFilter (Radio Button: "No Filter", "Year Only", "> Year", and "< Year")  So I think I would use the PushButton method on the Radio Buttons, but how do I reference the value in myYear and how would I set the Filter on myData? Thanks!!!

The ValueChanged method does not occur until you depart from the field.  Try the mouseClick event.

RE: Code in a Form question
Thanks!!! I've made a few minor adjustments - but basically that's it. I ended up moving it to a procedure to make it easier. The procedure (myUpdate) is now called from the valueChanged method of both myYear and myFilter fields. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't get called immediately after clicking on a different myFilter value - but I think that's just me not understanding the event model. (Something I haven't messed with before!)

RE: Paradox 9 / 10 and Windows 7
I contacted Corel tech support just to see what they'd say. They indicated that X6 ships with Paradox 11 - didn't offer any information about what fixes (if any) might be included. (Which is what I had asked.)

Paradox 9/10/11 and Vista and Win 7
I found a press release today on the Corel site from about a month ago with this interesting sentence:
In addition, Corel has also released a special update for Paradox X4 that optimizes the database application to work with Windows Vista.
and later on
In addition to downloading and installing SP1, customers who wish to run WordPerfect Office X4 Professional including Paradox X4 on Windows Vista should contact Corel to request a specific Paradox update that optimizes the software to work with Microsoft's latest operating system. Offered on CD, the update is available free to registered users in North America by contacting Corel Customer Support at 1-800-772-6735.
I only have X3 and I don't yet have Vista. Has anyone got the update and tried it? whole press release - [...Corel deleted or moved press release...]

Adding line # in table report
I'm sure there is a simple way to do this, but I can't find it! I have a simple tabular report, based on a table with 3 dependant tables. For the report, I'm using a sort and a filter. I'd like to add a field to the table which is the filtered record number rather than the "real" record number (meaning 1, 2, 3, etc. rather than 23,49,123, etc.). Is there a simple way to do that? (Worst case, I can run a query with the filter and do the report off of the result, but that seems like a lot of work.)

Perfect! Thanks! (minor additional detail: have to select a field to do the summary on)

Preferences not retained
My Paradox installation on a laptop (version 11.0.0.411) works OK, apart from a bug I have had once before where it forgets the Advanced setting in developer preferences, displays the Startup screen, resets the Priv folder (to the over-long default path) every time I re-start Paradox after booting up. I have tried deleting all references to pdregcl from the registry and files with that name - which worked last time - but no luck.,

ChimneySweep 6.0
Has anyone else tried this software? I've heard previous versions recommended many times, but I just got the current version (6.0) and I'm having a _lot_ of issues with it. I've sent an email to them about it - waiting for a response. I'd be happy to provide specifics of the issues if it would be helpful.

Sounds like similar problems to what I was hitting. I also received an email about a "bad build" and I'm awaiting further information. I'm glad its not just me ;-)

Ctrl-Space "There is no text" fixed
This is just a helpful hint - because I've been fighting this "problem" for a couple of weeks and finally found the resolution. The problem: whenever I would type ctrl-space in Paradox to do a table lookup a computer voice would say "there is no text" and do nothing else. The resolution turned out to be a Yahoo Widget that I use - Month Calendar by Harry Whitfield. Under "Widget Preferences" there is a Speech tab - change the "Speak Memo Hotkey" to something else (or change it to none).

p13 losing settings
I've recently installed Paradox 13 (v11.0.0.411) on a new winxp system. I made all the usual customizations in the BDE - and those work fine. But within Paradox I set a number of things, including window size/location, working directory, and various other preferences. Now the odd part is that about once a day or so (no pattern than I've been able to find so far) when I launch Paradox, it acts like I've never set any preferences reverting to the default settings., , Any suggestions as to why this is happening?, , (I've been using many versions of Paradox on many computers over the years, but I've never had this problem before!), , -David

I'm not wanting to extend this thread unnecessarily, but for the purpose of overcoming this annoying quirk, I have a script which is available to anyone who wants.  It then saves having to trawl through the registery. I simply run it from my working directory and bingo. "Where have all the flowers gone...?" On the assumption that I won't be deluged with E Mails, contact me at ross.downes@xtra.co.nz,

AVG 9 Free and Share Violations
Howdy, I just wanted to warn ya'll about a problem I've been debugging for the last several hours. I upgraded to AVG 9.0 Free on a machine with Paradox with horrific side effects. I tried (several times) to do a regular run of one of my major apps and I got "share violation" errors at random times during the runs. The worst being in the middle of a "compact" and the original .db file was lost! (Thank God for backups :-) Machine is using WinXP sp 3, Paradox 11.0.0.411. App is home grown but very stable and heavily used. (Final result: uninstalled that version of AVG and the problem is gone)
