Keystroke alternative to switch objects (files)
Hi. Nice site and great idea., In interactive Paradox 9, I sometimes open several tables, forms, reports at once. To switch between them, I click their little icons at the bottom of the screen. I would like to instead press a key or key-combo to do this. I have queried Paradox's help etc. without success. Does anyone know what key(s) I'm looking for?, Thanks for any help., , , ------------------, Fred Van Houten

My suggestion would be to use the Rentals Table as the master table with a one to one relationship with both the Ttiles Table linked by TitleNo and the Customers Table linked by the CustID.

Latest update report Paradox 7
I have 10 Knitting machines all with there own data table.I use reports to calculate production time and efficiency etc., How do i create one report that shows me the last complete (with calculations)line of data entry for each machine, i do not want a summary, i want to get a quick check on how the machines are doing ., Please note i am new to this type of programing and i basicaly use the wizards to set things up, but it works well., SECOND PROBLEM I use forms for my workers to input data, is there any way i can lock the screen or disable the tool bar to stop them accessing the rest of the program., THANK YOU

Assuming that all the tables are accessable on one PC you could put all the tables in one data model for a report then set a table frame for each table to return only the latest data for each knitting maching. Several options exist, to keep your users restricted to a page you could use toolbar.hide(), in addition you can limit the options available on the menu, you can make the input form a dialog and close paradox when the form is closed.

last data entry report
Thank you Daniel, sadly i could not quite get it to work BUT i did get a result useing the multi record tool. I was able to put buttons on the left hand side to link to my machine reports and the last entry data i got for each machine by putting form boxes linked to the data in the rows across. It was slow work to set up but the result works well., i do not have a clue to where i should enter toolbar.hide(),nor how to disable parts of the tool bar, i have unticked the tool bar options but i am left with the file view edit bar on top which can be opened to access the computer., please could you explain "how to" in more detail ., thank you., paul axelrad U.K.

data models
I have taken an Access program through a college. In the current jobI am in, I am working with Paradox. I have never worked with Paradox. Some fields are linked in the data models that are not identical fields. Is this possible? I know that in Access you link the fields where you want the information to change consistently throughout the database, but I don't understand how this can be a proper link...., , AP table Customer table, , AP_Name* Customer_No*, Inv_ID*------------>Order_No, Name Street, City State

SQL problem in Pdox9
My problem is with the following simple select statement on an Oracle table..., SELECT DISTINCT "PRT_ID", FROM "PRISM"."PRT_MASTER" , WHERE ("CASE" = '138029'), ORDER BY "PRT_ID", In Pdox5 it works fine with either QBE or SQL. In Pdox9 it works with QBE but switching to SQL yields "Invalid use of keyword. Token: Prt_Master"., I've checked the configuration of the PRISM alias in both Pdox5 & 9 and it looks like it's configured the same in both versions. , , Help!

help with forms
Hello,, I'm new to the Paradox world. I've setup a rather basic database but I'm having trouble getting a form put together that works properly. I have setup a table for names and I have given each name an ID#. I want to link different tables by the ID# - I've done that - but I would like to be able to select the name from a list box (or something like that) on the form so that the ID# would automatically be inputted -- any suggestion? I am using paradox 9, , Thanks, , Matt

Running Queries
First off, I have no idea about the subject so I figured this would be a good place to start. My boss just approached me to run a query from a workstation, but use the databases and the CPU from a much faster PC. Is there a way to do this using paradox?

pdox dos 45 report formfeed problem
When a report should just fit on x number of pages, the last few characters (the exact number varies varies) print on the next sheet. Reports that leave half filled pages print fine., This occurs printing to various HP Laser printers on a Netware 4.11 network. Altering capture parameters has not fixed the problem., , The report will print correctly if a) the user exits Paradox immediately or b) the print job is sandwiched between other print jobs waiting to print., , Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that the quickest way to get results on this is to either: 1)embed a formfeed command into the report footer band or 2) insert a command in your application code that prints a dummy report right after the end of your mailing label report. The dummy report could be based on a small table that has one text field containing something like "I'm finished" in it. This would force the first report out of the printer.

Inclusion operator
Can links be created in data models that will not cause the inclusion operator (!) to pop up every time a query is based on it? I've read about the difference between inner and outer joins, but I see no way to stipulate that I DON'T want the inclusion operator for any given link when I query that data model

I am afraid I seem to have the broken the message board as it will not take this add-on to my last query, but it shows it as the latest reply! So, I have posted it afresh in response to Al's reply. I have feeling something similar to this appeared recently but anyway here it is-, From a pair of Radio/Toggle buttons giving Yes/No values, how do we get -, "YES" into Table A field AX, "NO" inot Table B field BX, Or is a case of using a DIY pair of buttons disguised as radio/togle buttons?, rt

Changing sort order on a detail table
Is it possible to select a secondary index for sort order on a detail table? I have a master tabel view and a detail table view below it and the Filter properties will let me change the sort index on the master table but not on the detail table. Even if there was some OPal way to do it... Or would I have to make the primary index of the detail table include the sort fields that I want? (Not a good answer), , Thanks, , Matthew Wegener

Totals
A neat solution required for what looked a simple problem.., Imagine a simple table with a primary key based on an autoincrement field and a field entitled Sex with a single 'M' or 'F' input via a user data input form., The tasks are to show-, 1. The separate total number of records for M and F - as in "Total number of Men = n ", 2. Those totals to be able to be used as individual data sources for a graph., 3. All this info to display as the form is opened., 4. All info to be updated on screen as further entries are made to the main table., 5. This all has to work under runtime., 6. In reality the actual table has several fields of the Yes/No variety., I have got this work, but not in a very "elegant" manner so another view (or two, or even three) would be of great help - maybe that it's just that it's just Xmas and my brain isn't working too well!, Ta. PARADOX 8 NETWORKING
Very new to Paradox for windows. Used to DOS 4.5. Have the power programming book and it is very helpful. I am trying to set up the database on the network. I am able to get the user directed to the working directory with no problems. But if the user accesses forms/tables that are in use it is not allowed. We get table locked. Can you use the interactive forms/filters and just lock records not the entire table. I see reference in the book to alias's but I do not understand these and do not believe they will solve this problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Queries/reports
Imagine there is a happy little unsuspecting table and I wish to carry out a few queries/reports upon it. But, one of the fields is an incremental type (auto at the moment, but can be made DIY ObjectPal-able without too much fuss)., The queries sort on other fields and the only reason the increment field is included in the results is as a point of reference which will probably be seldom required and would not need to be referenced by the db anyway. , The problem is that by including the incremental field the records are also sorted on it. So, how to inlcude the auto field in any results but without it being used in the query process? , rt

Linking Multiple Tables
In creating a report, I am trying to link three tables. Table 1 (field 1) and Table 2 (field 2) link with Key A. I need Table 2 (field 2) to link with Table 3 (field 1) using Key B. , , How do I have multiple keys link with different tables?

I had Key B identified as a second key in the table. It seems like the error is that I'm not allowed to have two keys and do referential integrity unless both key fields are in the Table 3., , Yes, I did link correctly through the DM, , Thanks for the help.

Sort order in lookup tables
How do I change the display order of a lookup table in Paradox 9?, , For example, I have a patient demographics table that is keyed on last name, first name, date of birth. But I want my lookup table to sort by status (active first, deceased and inactive next). I have created a secondary index on status but I don't know how to tell the lookup table to use the secondary index., , Thank you.

This isn't the way the lookup feature works in Paradox. A lookup simply looks up data based on the key and fills in field(s)., , I'm not saying you can't do what you want, just not with the lookup feature. Instead, build your own form and code it to do what you want.
