splitting contents of one field into several field
I have a table with several fields. Each field contains several options separated by a ;., , In other words, the information in a typical field would look like:, , xxxxxx;yyyyyy;aaaa, ccc;dddddddd;ff, , The last item does not have a ; at the end of the item., , Is there a simple way to split this one field into several fields?, , Thanks for your help., , KC

For anyone who has this problem . . . , , 1. export database into Excel, , 2. highlight the column you want to split, , 3. click on DATA, then TEXT TO COLUMNS, , 4. just follow the instructions, , 5. then import Excel spreadsheet into ACCESS, , It worked for me . . . thanks, again, to everyone who helped me to sort out the problem . . . maybe not the neatest solution but within my grasp . . . take care, KC

Populating ComboBox...
(Hi, I am using Microsoft Access 2003) Is it possible to populate a ComboBox with choices from more than one field? I've got a couple of different tables, both having a "Department" field. One table has some departments, and the other table (Linked SharePoint table) has some different departments. I've got a form with a ComboBox control where the user picks a department from the drop-down list, and right now it only pulls the departments from one of the tables (the non-SharePoint regular table). Is it possible I could give the ComboBox "Row Source" property to, in addition to pulling data from the one table, also adding the Department field from the SharePoint table, too? Just so it lists all departments from both tables. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

New Memeber - Multi Selections in an Query from a
I am a Power User and have been using Access since 96 HOWEVER I have never learned VB and I think that might be the problem here., , I know how to set the MULTI SELECT in the list box property, am I using extended,, , There my question is this:, , 1) Can I have a user select more than one element on the list box and have that link to a query WITHOUT using VB? , , Any function I can use within Access?, , Please help, if I need VB knowledge then at least I know I did all I can., , I have gotten very far with this tool and I love it, I am sure I might be able to decifer a VB module with alittle help but I really need this to work, so a user can pick say 2 dates and the query automatically runs for those two dates only., , I just learned how to set Parameter Queries from this Forum, thank you., , I know, I do not know VB, anyone have a good suggestion how a Power User can get started?, , Thanks

Requery a combo box
I have a combo box on a form which allows a user to choose which institution they want. Then they can hit a command button to run a macro. This macro runs a query which pulls specific data for the chosen institution. , , Everything works fine. What I want is for the combo box to be reset or be clear when the user closes the query., , I have tried putting Me!cmboInstitution.Requery in the After Update event of the combo box. Does't do anything., , Any tips would be great. P.S. I don't know any VB.

Getting fields with zero values to not print and n
I have tried creating a macro that checks for zero values and then sets the visible property to false and I have also tried letting the macro set the width property to 0 inches but both ways the fields still seem to take up space even though they can not be seen. I need to bring the report to less pages if these fields are zero. Help!!!

question on subforms
I have a field set in a subform (datasheet view) upon double clicking to open up the subform for user friendly entry (thanks for last post, it worked) and now Im wondering how to make the data entered update immediately without having to close form and come back in for it to appear in the datasheet view????

Append query trouble
I have been trying to build an append query, all seems fine until I run the query, then I get an error message stating that 10 rows have not been updated., I have no idea what is wrong but i suspect my relationships are the problem., The file can be viewed here:, http://homepage.ntlworld.com/charlie_chuck/Rental.zip , , I will try to outline as clearly as possible what I am trying to achieve in this query., My goal is to append 10 records from the column W_Rent from the tblProperty_List to the column Amount in the tblRent., As I said earler all my efforts have failed., If anyone can troubleshoot this issue for me I would be really grateful., , Steve

Input of data in reports
I have an access assignment to and I'm having trouble with one of the questions. , The question is as follows:, A report showing details of any given component. After input of the Component Code by the user, the system should be able to display data on this component. [end question], , I thought data entry was only possible in a form., , Does anyone have any ideas? Reply if you need more information. Thanks in advance : )

How to link and replace data -Please help-
I have a database with 7 fields. ID, Publisher, Title, Issue, Price, Checkout. In the checkout column I have html I copied from my online payment company. In the html is a place for title, issue, ID, and price. I have been manually typing in each piece of data for each box. I have 4000 books and have finished 180. Isn't there a way to have access take the data from the title field and place it into my html using some sort of tag??? I need it to grab the 4 pieces of info from the table and insert it into my html. I want to paste the same html into the entire checkout column and let access do the rest. This is simple right?? At my wits end. Thanks in advance.

hmm..paste error?, is this when you are physically pasting the HTML into the column the first time? before you are going to the form? This could be a problem if you are using text as the type for checkout...change it to Type MEMO..., , BTW..do you have MSNMessenger...it might be faster since we are both online right now...

I have a table with a field, that is setup as a MEMO field. Information is entered seperated by a comma to represent more than one thing., , How can I create a query that will find a match of what I type in to look for., , Example: Field is for Serial Numbers: 001, 002, 003, etc is the data format in them. I want to just be able to search for say 003 and it would bring up that record. , , Daren

Hi,, , I have a access database on my server..i have created a backend for the tables which is ok...but when i install the forms..etc..on each users PC..when 2 users try to access at the same time..it says that the data is in use ?? can anyone help ??

I'd suggest you set it to "Lock Edited" and that you enable record level locking also.

Querying for Unique Values in One Field
I am an "Excel Guy". so please excuse this question if it seems elementary. , , I have a table of data that I want to export to Excel, but first I want to query it so that it only extracts records which are unique (based on the values in one field only). More than that, however, I want to extract the first-record-only of those records which have duplicates. , , For instance, if I have a record which has 3 dupes in this one field, I want to extract the first record only, (as well as any other records which do not have dupes). , , Date Name Policy#, , When there is a dupe Policy#, then I want the query to return only the first record, plus all records that do not have dupe Policy#'s., , Any help will be greatly appreciated!, , Thanks very much,, , -Bob in California

Subform update
I have a table of records and a subdatasheet with additional information. I have created a form and subform with this information. My main form is based on the "parent" table and the subform on the subdatasheet. THey are linked by an ID #. , , The problem is - when I add a new record to the main formand then try to add the additional info in the sub, it creates an error because the subform did not get updated ith the nre record ID. How can I update the subform with the ID from the record.

Thanks for your help. I did start over (but kept my old) and it worked also. I then went back to my original and got it to work. I think it may well have been the space in FileID. Or, maybe I had just been looking at it far to long and was becoming cross-eyed. I any regard the problem is solved - Thank You so Much!

Trouble with inserting new data
Hi, I am new to Access. I've had a lot of trouble developing a database. My question is as follows., When I enter a new data, that needs to be inserted in the middle of the database, it does not get appended at the right place. Instead it appears at the bottom.For example I have a database with columns 'Client Id'and 'Week'. I have entered data for a client for weeks numbered 1 to 7. Now I need to insert a data for week 2. But when I insert it using the 'Insert New Data' command the data appears at the bottom after week 7 and not before week 3 as it should appear., I hope I have not confused anyone. , Thanks in advance, Jegan

Building a Scheduler in Access
I would like to add a schedule subsystem to my database that I am working on. This Scheduler would need to be for multiple people and do the time in 15 minute increments starting with the open of business to the close. I want to schedule people in this for the jobs that they are doing. Geek Alert!

I am working on an Access form, and would like the users to be able to open the shortcut on their desktop without the Access window opening behind it.
