Well, the brain freeze seems to be moving off . . . solved the problem with the help of Knowledge Base at Microsoft.com., , In case anyone else needs a reference: MS KB Article, , I would still like to hear any strategies that anyone might have to do this in an easier fashion . . .thanks, kc

Are you asking if you can view the form outside of access? ie, the Access toolbars?, , Or is this a project you are updating and the forms have toolbars in them?, , Not that I have put toolbars in my forms, and getting it all to work outside of Access (stand alone) is the last thing I will research., , I'm afraid all I can help you with here is clarifying the question.

Populating ComboBox...
(Hi, I am using Microsoft Access 2003) Is it possible to populate a ComboBox with choices from more than one field? I've got a couple of different tables, both having a "Department" field. One table has some departments, and the other table (Linked SharePoint table) has some different departments. I've got a form with a ComboBox control where the user picks a department from the drop-down list, and right now it only pulls the departments from one of the tables (the non-SharePoint regular table). Is it possible I could give the ComboBox "Row Source" property to, in addition to pulling data from the one table, also adding the Department field from the SharePoint table, too? Just so it lists all departments from both tables. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

For anyone who has this problem . . . , , 1. export database into Excel, , 2. highlight the column you want to split, , 3. click on DATA, then TEXT TO COLUMNS, , 4. just follow the instructions, , 5. then import Excel spreadsheet into ACCESS, , It worked for me . . . thanks, again, to everyone who helped me to sort out the problem . . . maybe not the neatest solution but within my grasp . . . take care, KC

recover damaged file...MSysDb
I was working with my main .mdb file, and as luck would have it, Access up and crashed. This does happen every so often, as is true with most software including Microsoft products, but this was a very bad loss., , Upon trying to reopen the file and recover what I have since my last save, I get the following error message:, , The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'MSysDb'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly., , There was no object named MSysDb in my system, so I am assuming it is an Access feature. Other backups I have work just fine...only the file which crashed gives me this error., , It is possible to spend a day recovering lost work, but if there is anyway I could recover my lost file and sidestep this error message, I would be very appreciative., , ``allen

Form with dependent combo boxes (beginner)
Hello- Very much a beginner at Access here.  I'm trying to create a form for data entry, and may have several questions, but let's start with this one: I am entering data related to employee attendance at professional development sessions.  There are six categories of sessions, and each category contains about 20-40 independent sessions. For the first two steps of the data entry process, I would like to have two combo boxes: one in which the category is selected, and the second in which the exact session in question  (sorted by data and course title) is selected.  Of course, I would rather not have the second combo box contain over 200 sessions.  The question is thus: How do I make the contents of the second combo box dependent on those of the first, so that if a particular category is selected in the first, only the sessions in that category are displayed in the second? Thanks in advance.,

Can I set up a Secure Database where I have five users accessing a table. This table will have information about 12 divisions. Passwords are assigned to the five people whereby the password allows them to either edit or only view the data about the division., For example:, John can update info about division 1 and division 5 but he has only read-only rights to the rest of the divisions., , If anyone has any suggestions please help me., , Thanks

Custom Format for Logical and Date
I'm pretty new to Access (but I've got lots of experience using Paradox and other db's)., , I'm trying to create a custom format in a report for a logical field and for a date field., , For the logical field the only options are true/false, yes/no, on/off - I want to be able to display "Xxx" if True or "Yyy" if False in a report. I've found references in the M$ help files and web site that custom formats are possible - but not the slightest indication about how one would create one!, , The custom format for a date field is similar. Instead of using the long option - I want something like Sat 22 Jan 2005 (instead of Saturday and January being spelled out completely)., , Any suggestions?, , Thanks,, David

I found a not-so-elegant solution to the logical problem. I added a lookup file with the text I want and a logical field as the index. Still no luck with dates., , I'm hitting some other interesting problems trying to do complex (but not that complex) queries. When I've isolated them down enough I'll post 'em also.

Requery a combo box
I have a combo box on a form which allows a user to choose which institution they want. Then they can hit a command button to run a macro. This macro runs a query which pulls specific data for the chosen institution. , , Everything works fine. What I want is for the combo box to be reset or be clear when the user closes the query., , I have tried putting Me!cmboInstitution.Requery in the After Update event of the combo box. Does't do anything., , Any tips would be great. P.S. I don't know any VB.

SQL Distinct Problem
We are in the process of upsizing our Access 2000 interface and database to SQL server., Our interface involves a fairly complex query which contains 33 tables., To use SQL server, we need to change the DISTINCTROWS clause in the query to DISTINCT, and a reference to 'False' to '0'., The query itself now runs fine in SQL server, but cannot be run from our mdb, returning an error of 'Query too complex'. Initial investigation seemed to point the finger at a 16 table limitation of ODBC V2, but having used the same syntax in an Access-Only environment, the same error is returned. This seems to suggest that the fault does not lie with ODBC, but with the syntax instead., Has anyone had any problems with the DISTINCT clause in an Access/SQL environment?, , Thanks,, Paul

Filtering using a user defined custom form and unb
I need to be able to return a list of records from 3 tables that are related: Contacts, ContactsLanguages(one to many relationship to contacts) and ContactsInterests (one to many relationships to contacts)., , I need to be able to search by 6 different fields. 4 from the contacts table (Name, Country, Area, LastName), 1 field from the ContactsLanguages (language) table and one field from the ContactsInterests (Interests) table., , I would like to be able to have a form with these 6 search fields and when a 'query' button is selected it would filter those fields (using AND statements) and return the results below those fields displaying each record one after another., , Any ideas?

MDE Files/Need Help with path problem
Hey everyone,, New hereBig Grin!, I will post elsewhere not sure if this is all IT or both IT and access, at my job IT manager moved all shared files to a different location example - instead of Ment01 he moved it to Ment04. While doing this there is a folder in there that has a large database and now I cannot log into it keeps giving me an error message saying the path is invalid or typo., , We tried copying it to desktop, and even shortcut does not work????, , When moving MDE files are you suppose to make a replica of the orig before moving it over or is this more an IT issue with permission and IP addresses?, I am the only one that has all requirements to modify, enter ect, everone else is read only, , Please if anyone out there let has any suggestions or ideas let me know, Thanks, Hockey

Acess 2003 basic report question...
I am using Access 2003. Say you've got a report that draws some fields from a query, then spits out their values on a report. Now what if I wanted to set some sort of condition on one of the number data-type fields such that, "If is blank/zero, don't display other field."  In this report, say I want to set it up such that "If 'Hours Spent' is blank/zero, then don't display 'Project Description' (or make it blank--whatever)." And then, how would you do something like "If 'Hours Spent' is blank/zero, then don't show that particular record at all." ? Is this possible?

Ok, I was mistaken. I thought since I had not directly addressed this that it was not yet fixed. But it appears to be self-correcting--possibly as a result of what I did in correcting the other field--as I now cannot make a query that returns any blank numeric values at all in the report. So that's great. Thank you for replying.
